We are amongst mobile worst offenders behind the wheel.

2 of 10 male drivers aged 18-29 have taken selfies while driving, while 24 percent have used social media or email. 37 percent of those surveyed drivers admitted that they have sent text messages behind the wheel, according to a new survey on driving habits in the region.

– We want to put the spotlight on this important road safety issue and urge motorists to focus on the run and not mobile screen – it can save lives, says CIO Carl Stenson in Michelin.

Mobile Activities

Male, Norwegian motorists using the mobile phone much more than women. In aged 18-29 says 6 of 10 that they have sent SMS behind the wheel. 2 of 10 have taken selfies in car compared with 17 percent of women in the same age group. Among men between 30 and 49 responds over half that they have sent text messages while driving.

E-mail and social media are the second most popular mobile activities while driving. 14 percent of respondents have used e-mail while driving, while 10 percent have used social media like Facebook or Instagram.

– In the autumn darkness, it is especially important to have your eyes on the road and not the highly luminous mobile display underscores Stenson.

1 of 3 young male drivers use social media while driving, while 1 of 4 reading emails. Drivers over 65 use mobile phones use less, but even here provide 8 percent of men and 2 percent of women said they have sent SMS while driving.

A total of 30 percent of Norwegian drivers used their phones for e-mail, social media or selfies.

– According to Norwegian law, it is forbidden for drivers to use their mobile phone features while driving, and it also applies to SMS and other tasting. It is only allowed to start and stop calls and play music, but only if your mobile phone can be used handsfree, says Carl Stenson.

Danske male drivers between 18 and 50 years sends most SMS traffic. Nearly 7 out of 10 say they’ve texted in car. The highest Norwegian SMS century stands Norwegian male drivers aged 18-29 for 59 percent. (ANB)
