Exercise and healthy lifestyle is more in than ever. Personal records and training schedule is lunch topic at many workplaces around Norway, and sports industry set new sales records for every year that passes.
The equipment previously reserved for elite athletes will now be in the closet to your colleague or at home neighbor lady. But there is still more to be gained for those who sell various gizmos. Much more.
Sensor Socks
One of the freshest on the market, the so-called “Sensoria Fitness Smart Sock”, which shows whether you run in a sensible way. Tim Bennett, president of the organization Kondis, have tried out the sock, and believes that it may have something for themselves.
– Yes, for those who are starting with running it can be anything. The sock has a sensor that detects how you trample on your leg, if you land on the forefoot or hind foot. It is a useful tool to get people to run more properly , explains Bennett.
However, he is not absolutely thrilled.
– You have a hoop around the ankle when using the sock, but I do not think there is any problem. The downside for me is that you must have your mobile with you when you run the game to fix. The sock will have to be developed and made easier. Anyway I do not think this will be a huge stock, but may well be something some samples out, think Bennett.
Weight training Tapes golf chip
The sock he’s talking about is of course just one illustrative case. There are countless gadgets out there, here are some other examples:
- For strength training is called a “push band” among the latest gadgets. The tape is wrapped around the arm and provides continuous feedback while doing the exercises in the weight room. When you perform ten repetitions in the bench press, detects tape speed of your movement. Then give it a recommendation for how many kilos you should put on weight rod before the next set of repetitions, the day’s form and on your goal with your workout. It all can be likened to a runner who is keen to stay within a specific intensity zone.
- As regards the important everyday activity, technology can be a helper. These days launched Apple Watch on the Norwegian market. One of the watch’s many tasks is to notify when you have sat quietly for an hour. How does one become reminded that one should get up and stretch your body a bit periodically.
- For those who like to swim, it may be appropriate to use their underwater MP3 player Neptune. It uses a technology that allows you without wearing headphones can listen to your favorite music while you struggle from one poolside the other.
- It is far from just the cardio and the development of gizmos. For golf enthusiasts, perhaps a small chip called Zepp something to test. The tag attached to the golf glove and coordinated with mobile. After a game you get an analysis of the performance of the mobile, compared to how the world’s best performing battle. Similarly chip is also for tennis and baseball.
– Joy and benefit
Limitations seems thus not to exist in this industry. Bård Kristiansen, CEO of Sports Industry AS, register with delight that many new products are welcomed by training excited Norwegians.
– People have a big appetite for these things, they want them when they exercise. It can be used in endurance training, has become very popular, says Kristiansen.
– Where do these things come from?
– Much comes from the USA, and some also from China. But it does not usually go so long before things sold in Norway. Competition has escalated sharply, and product development is very central here. Very much about finding new and cool stuff.
Belief in further growth
Industry Director does not accept that part buys more than it strictly all need.
– I think people have both pleasure and advantage of what they are buying. Are you out and take a jog, it’s always fun to compete with yourself. Then it’s fine with heart rate monitor, which is now also GPS, speedometer, altimeter and more.
The first decade in the new millennium was the best period ever for the Norwegian sports industry. After you saw a slight decline in turnover from 2010 to 2011, the curve side pointed upwards again.
– Are you afraid that people get tired and stop buying all this equipment ?
– No. I believe this is only going to grow, responding Kristiansen.
Skepticism
Tim Bennett is not as safe.
– The trend is that it comes mass stuff that can read miscellaneous motion. There is sooo much fun for a while but then you have tried it and ask themselves: Do I need this information?
Bennett reminds us that it is far from everything that pops up of innovations, which survive.
– I’ve run into such a sunshade that you should have in your head when you run. Where you could follow the speed and time and everything along the way, and this would really catch on. But it did not, I think it died pretty quickly, chuckling Bennett.
Strength training and yoga
At training centers, there are two main trends now, according Randi Christensen Solberg. She is responsible for classes in Bet Elixia in Norway.
– The one strength training with body weight. The traditional strength training with equipment and appliances are declining, and exercises that provide functional training is popular. One can recognize sports such as gymnastics and athletics in the exercises, says Solberg.
– Yoga trend is number two. This has intensified year by year, and will continue in 2016. It is about that one is more concerned with taking care of their health rather than focusing on the body. We also offer a yoga where spirituality is toned down and form of exercise is the most important.
Spesialløp
Solberg says that they are working in several ways to find new forms of training.
– We receive many inquiries, but is also very active outside yourself. Special trends often appear first in the United States. Now we threw ourselves on the trend called barre, which are exercises inspired by ballet. This is something we have seen for several years in the US, but sitting on the fence, wondering if there is something for the Norwegian market. Other trends using much shorter time before they come to Norway.
When it comes to competitions for amateurs, believe Bård Kristiansen that various spesialløp will strengthen its position.
– These have been relatively large in the United States. It is not enough anymore just to run, you want crab in the mud, swim across a water and be properly gørrete before reaching the goal, says the managing director of the Sports Industry AS.
