When mother of three Ragnhild Kamilla Sandvold (44) was found dead in the freezer in his own home in Søgne in 1999, she was routinely autopsied at Institute of Forensic Medicine, and a number of tracks were secured.
Among the total of eleven tracks, which was secured, was:
- Nails
- Neglavskrap
- Swabs with wiper
- hairs found on Ragnhild
- hairs found in the freezer
None of these tracks were analyzed or examined for DNA because the police thought it was not necessary. Police quickly concluded that they faced an even killing and dismissed the case as no criminal offense.
Do not think the mother committed suicide
Ragnhilds son Raymond has consistently refused to accept that her mother took her own life. For 16 years he struggled to get the police to look into the matter.
Suspicious circumstances surrounding Ragnhilds deaths:
- Ragnhild had a string tied around the left wrist. A loop at the other end of the cord may indicate that her hands were tied together, but she managed to get his hand out. It is proven DNA from a male figure on the clothesline.
- A cardboard box stood atop the lid of the freezer. Although it is possible to open the freezer with the box lid, it is considerably easier to remove the cardboard box first.
- Ragnhild had a wound on his mouth. The wound was inflicted Ragnhild shortly before she died. The last person to see her alive, saying she had no injuries.
- Carrie was affected by drug alprozolam, which is the active substance in the sedative drug Xanor. Ragnhild may have been unconscious when she ended up in the freezer. Ragnhild was previously pill addict and had tried to overdose, but when she died she was sober. People who were close to Carrie says that she had received life in order and so optimistic about the future.
- Several things were gone from the apartment. Among other things, was the freezer full of food shortly before Ragnhild was found dead. When she was found, was the freezer emptied of food. It is not made any attempt to find out what happened to the food. Ragnhild had no car, so she could not run it away yourself.
- A pill glass was found in the stove in the apartment. Pille glass is not examined for fingerprints or origin.
Private Investigator and former NCIS investigator Asbjørn Hansen has undergone the documents on behalf of Ragnhilds son. Hansen said it was an investigator at Agder Police who gave orders to the Institute of Forensic Medicine that the material should not be investigated.
– It must have been a discussion whether this was a suicide or not. When I think really it’s little wonder that this was examined, says Hansen to TV2.
– Do you know why?
– No.
Would cost 15,000
At the eleven slots were not analyzed, may be because the police districts in 1999 even had to pay for the studies. The samples in question, would cost Agder police around 15,000 kroner.
Prosecution Responsible at Agder Police, Terje Kaddeberg Skaar, declined in summer the last petition for review of sentence. He would not comment on the investigation of the case around the millennium.
– The reviews that were undertaken in 1999 and onwards I can not answer for, says Terje Kaddeberg Skaar to TV2.
Recent analyzes of the material police failed to investigate is central to the requirement that Ragnhild case must be investigated as murder. But now confirms police that the eleven tracks that were secured during the autopsy, is destroyed and discarded.
– They are not police anymore, so far we have managed to clarify, says Kaddeberg Skaar.
Several other evidence in the case, including a pill glass that was never tested for DNA and fingerprints, are thrown.
Attorney: – Remarkable
Lawyer Harald Jahren represents Ragnhilds son Raymond Inger Seth-Sandvold. He is amazed that the material can no longer be examined.

– For me it appears quite remarkable that throwing material that could be examined and that should have been investigated and that you now can not use anymore to clarify an issue, says Jahren.
– So here you conclusive evidence have been destroyed?
– Yes, I think so.
Cord can provide answers
When Ragnhild Sandvold was found dead, she had a string tied around the left wrist. This cord was found DNA from a male figure. However, it was not possible to determine the identity of the author.
With current methods it will probably be possible to obtain a full DNA profile. This material are still in police possession, unlike a lot of other tracks. But police believe it will not have any intention to analyze this again.
– When evaluating 16 years afterwards whether to reopen an investigation, it should be a realistic possibility that a new investigation may provide information that goes in the direction that her death was due to a criminal act. The review has the police taken, and there is no realistic possibility for, says police inspector Terje Kaddeberg Skaar.
– But you have not analyzed this again?
– No, but if you want to reopen the investigation, it is with the base. Our conclusion is that there is a realistic possibility to obtain information.
Looking similarities with Monika affair
Former NCIS investigator Asbjørn Hansen, who also wrote the report that led to a new investigation by Monika affair in Bergen, says police work in college similar to what happened in Oslo.
Eight-year-old Monika Sveglinskaja was found hanged in a belt that was attached to a doorknob in the girl’s home in Sund municipality outside Bergen. Police concluded first that the girl had committed suicide.
Two and a half years later, the case was resumed after a policeman in Bergen sent alarm for what he believed was an inadequate investigation of the case. Monika’s stepfather is now charged in the case.
– I see very clear parallels between the two cases. You are somehow determined that yes, here there has been a suicide and nothing else. Then lock yourself in the theory instead of seeing the possibilities, says Asbjørn Hansen.
