The decision was taken in a Board meeting in Avinor Thursday night. The ambition is that the center will be ready in 2017, writes Avinor in a statement.
The battle for Avinor new tower service has been in full swing between Vaernes Gardermoen and Bodø.
Fonts center will be scheduled to handle tower service by up to 15 airports, mainly airports in northern Norway with local flight information (AFIS). Which airports which will not get remotely controlled turrets will be decided in the spring.
– choice of Bodo is an overall assessment, where we have weighed many considerations against each other. We have seen that it is important to have the center at an airport and at a place where we already have great presence, says CEO Anders Kirsebom Avinor air navigation.
– In Bodø we have both control center and tower services. We have both controllers and a large variety of technical personnel. We have already today about 130 employees in the city, he continues.
At Bodo has a large aviation community already today counts heavily.
– Bodø CAA, defense and Widerøe. And it is also true that many of the airports that are appropriate for RC, located in northern Norway. Therefore it is natural that tower center is located there.
Can control air traffic using video monitors
In the future, a total of 36 of 46 Norwegian control tower be remote controlled, as a stage in Avinor austerity.
That one tower center can control large parts of the Norwegian air traffic using video monitors.
Avinor believes RC can reduce the cost of tower service at the airports by about 30-40 percent. It is important for Avinor which must cut 1.5 billion in three years.

Has been tested in Bodo
The remote system has already been tested in Bodø, which by means of a camera tower and 14 video monitors remotely control tower Lofoten islands Værøy and Rost.
Camera lenses delivers 360 degree overview of weather, traffic and landing conditions.
Anders Kirsebom says that total is 70-80 employees affected by the decision on the establishment in Bodo.
– These must be handled in a proper way, and everyone will be offered jobs in Bodø , he says.
– How important is this for Avinor?
– This tower center makes us more efficient and can reduce costs. That way we can maintain the excellent network we have around the kingdom, says Kirsebom.
Bodo Mayor Ole Hjartøy has previously told that there is talk of many jobs.
– This is very important for Bodo. As I understand it, there are 15 airports that will be remotely controlled in the first place, then it may be talking about much more than 30 airports. That means a few years there may be talking about 150 jobs.
