Fisheries Elisabeth Aspaker (H) today announced a new white paper that should boost growth in the aquaculture industry.
The farming industry accounts for 70 percent of seafood exports measured in value, but at the same time, the industry has problems with lice, fish diseases and fish that escape.
– The main purpose is to provide industry with greater predictability. They should know when those are measured, what kind of criteria that underlie and how much growth can be, says Aspaker NRK.

She believes to offer the industry six percent increase every two years.
– This presupposes that the nature-related tolerance limit is acceptable. An indicator is measurement of lice, explains fisheries minister.
Through this rule, the coast is divided into zones, and each zone shall environmental condition measured. Turns measurements badly in terms of things like emissions and lice can put stop for expansion, but is in good condition so it does clear signal for further growth and expansion.
Everything is measured at traffic lights scale, green is good and means growth, yellow is the continuation, red is stop and possibly reduction.
– In 2017, we expect to have the new system up. Then we get an environmental on the coast, and I hope it will be green in several places. When they know that environmental approval means growth, it will give motivation.

But fisheries minister proposed traffic lights in the aquaculture industry meets resistance. Nordland hunter shooting association has previously stated fear that the scheme will make it worse for wild salmon.
– This is completely irresponsible with greater growth reach. It gets to run an industry where many of the environmental factors not under control at all, says Maren Esmark, secretary general of the Earth.
She believes that growth in the “green areas” is to start in the wrong ending.
