This resistant sapphire screen – ITavisen.no

knife, steel wool, scissors, screwdrivers, keys and stone.

Friday 5 September 2014 – 1:10 p.m.

Tuesday we’ll probably see the iPhone 6 for the first time.

Three times stronger
The new Apple phone will apparently have sapphire glass, similar to the one sitting on the exclusive watches.

The material is virtually impossible to scratch or smash, and will thus be three times more resistant than the Gorilla Glass used in most phone screens today.

Would try yourself
But how tough is it really?

The website Engadget.com (see video) decided to try.

Kyocera did they receive a Brigadier-phone, which has sapphire glass and in addition to scratches will withstand both water and harsh fall / stroke.

From the tool shed
The Japanese company was so kind to send with a whole small tool set consisting of a pocket knife, steel wool and box of rocks.

Jour Features list supplemented even with Brillo (stalulldotter with soap), screwdriver, scissors, razor blades, screws and key clip.

Steiner, keys and steel wool
Then just go ahead and vandalism.

First they started with Gnura phone in a box with smooth stones. It went just fine. A game with a stålulldott gave no notice.

So they took “the phone in my pocket with keys” test. Quite right, too. The keys did not actually notice!

Survived pocket knife
then regular kitchen knife. Not a scratch from it either. The screwdriver also went fine and scissors too.

Neither the sharp pocket knife managed to create brands.

The journalist gave up the indoor mistreatment and went outside to see the possibilities of destruction was better there.

Dælje test
Repeated dæljing against a lamppost did no harm. Nor throwing the phone a couple of meters into the air before it landed hard on the pavement.

But the cabinet was slightly damaged. Even if the phone was still usable after the rough abuse, buttons were a little out of sorts.

Do not impossible
Totally impossible is nevertheless not to destroy sapphire glass. And everything is relative – also in relation to Gorilla Glass.

The company uBreakiFix state that they have managed to break the glass by taking it out of the case and dropping it from about 1 meter. They also found that sapphire glass break faster than Gorilla glass when you bend it.

But anyway: Even if it’s swine expensive to fix a phone with sapphire glass, so it should obviously very much before it becomes necessary.
