As most of you know it is possible to run the flow service Netflix on a variety of Linux-based devices, but the official Netflix support on desktop PCs with the operating system has so far absent and often required various technical detours.
Now, among others, Engadget and The Verge notified that a formal Netflix support for Linux has finally arrived. The news comes in the form of a message on the Ubuntu forum of Netflix engineer Paul Adolph.
Runs stable Chrome
The Report states that Netflix now runs stably with Google’s browser Chrome in version 2.14 of Ubuntu. Ubuntu is among the most widely used Linux distributions and mainly designed for desktop computers.
The main reason this is now possible is that the flow service has moved away from Microsoft’s Silverlight technology for video streaming over to HTML5 solution, which we reported on last April.
To make it all a bit more technical informs Netflix engineer, however, that the operating system must have installed the new version of something called NSS (Network Security Services), more specific version 3.16.2.
Works already with many Linux devices
NSS is a security plugin that is intended to protect against piracy rate of the flow. According to Engadget running the current 4.14 version of Ubuntu an older version of NSS, but will soon be updated with the new edition.
The news could probably be said to be expected, since Netflix already works including the widespread , Linux-based operating system Android and other Linux devices such as flow pin Roku.
