- Nokia logo disappears for Christmas – Amobil.no

Microsoft got the right to use the Nokia name for the next ten years when they bought the Finnish mobile division. Since the acquisition was completed in the spring, many wondered how long the two brand names would live side by side on the phones. Now, it may seem as though the answer has come; leading up to Christmas sales, but not anymore.

Site geekongadgets.com should have got hold of an internal Microsoft document stating that this year’s Christmas campaign will drop the Nokia brand name as part of a multi-phase transition. Website theverge.com also writes about the transition, and says that they can verify the authenticity of the document.

section of the document that is currently displayed does not say anything more about the brand will be focused on, but both sites claim Microsoft to come will pursue its own name, in addition to the current Lumia name. The newly launched phones Lumia 830 and Lumia 730/735 will be the latest models on the market with Nokia logo on it.

from Windows Phone to Windows only

Surprisingly enough, it is claimed also that Windows Phone name is about to be changed. In marketing the Lumia 930 and HTC’s new One model is referred to only as the operating system namely Windows. Promotional Videos for the latest Lumia models do not use the operating system’s full name.

This may be because Microsoft plans to merge its many Windows versions, across PCs, tablets and mobile phones. This change is expected to come with the next version of Windows, which likely will be showcased once during the next spring.

Microsoft has not commented on the strategy change. The company has on several occasions been asked this question, without saying anything about what specific plans they have.
