Rig Worker fell from Seadrill rig at work for Statoil – TU

On the night of May 16 fell a rig worker overboard from Seadrill rig West Hercules. This adds several media, including the website gCaptain.com and offshore.no.

The rig was at work for Statoil about 500 kilometers east of St. John’s, Newfoundland.

The rig is at a 18-month long exploration mission for Statoil, where the additional appraisal drilling and monitoring wells in and around the Bay du Nord area.

– The worker is a Canadian citizen who is employed by Seadrill. The person was picked up by a rescue boat and transported back to the rig, says Rostad.

He says that the man received medical care on board and then transported to the helicopter to land.

– He was in relatively good physical condition and be able to walk even from the helicopter when he came to the country, according to Statoil.

Are investigated

Rostad said that Statoil takes a serious this kind of events, and together with Seadrill joined forces to investigate the incident.

– There is appointed a review team to find out what has happened. It is a collaboration between Statoil, Seadrill and crewed West Hercules, he said.

There is still uncertainty ahead leads to the event. Rostad said he not yet know what kind of altitude worker fell.

– It is too early to say anything about. That is part of the investigation should answer. But it should have been calm sea in the area when this happened. From what I’ve understood it should have been wave height of around one and a half meters, says press spokesman.
