5 useful tricks for Google Docs – Dagbladet.no

Dinside.no: Google Docs is a good and free alternative to Microsoft Word that you can use right in your browser, in addition to that there are separate apps for Android and iOS.

Google Docs may not have as many advanced features such as Word, yet enough that most people get done what they need.

Here are some tips for becoming a more exaggerated Google Docs user.

# 1: Use keyboard shortcuts

Hotkeys will always save you time no matter what application you’re working in, and Google Docs has a course loads of different of them, which you should learn first as last.

You can get a complete list of keyboard shortcuts from the Help menu or by pressing Ctrl + / in Windows or Cmd + / in OS X.

Some of the shortcuts you probably going to get the most use are:

Text Formatting
• Ctrl + B: Bold font
Ctrl + I: Italic
Ctrl + U: Underline

Editor

Ctrl + F Search
Ctrl + H: Find and Replace
Ctrl + K: Insert Hyperlink

# 2: Search in menus

Fresh in Google Docs, not yet learned all the shortcuts and struggling to find out where on the toolbar or the menu all functions are located?

Whether for example, to highlight any words in a paragraph or to insert special characters in your text, you can do the following:

Press Help . Top of the menu you will see a search box that allows you to search all the menus in Google Docs. Enter the function you’re looking for, and it pops up in the result list below, just select it.



# 3: Links to the document

Sometimes it happens that you want to add a link in your text document. In Google Docs do not necessarily look up the address in a separate tab first. Google’s own search engine is naturally integrated, so you can simply google a link directly into your document.

From the Insert & gt; Link or right-click the page and select Link . When we bring up a dialog window with two text fields – type in what you want to search for in the bottom of them.

Select the link from the results that pop up, then edit the link text in the upper text field and press Use .

You do not get up a search result as appropriate, in the search box, press Learn more to get up several proposals in a column to the right. You can link up documents from Google Docs / Drive too.

# 4: Edit documents offline

You must not be connected to the internet to work with Google Docs, although it is an online service.

There is an offline function that allows you to both create new documents and work with existing documents – you can also just read documents if you wish.

Offline feature are only available from Google Chrome browser. To start using it, you must go to Google Drive web site, press the Tools icon at the top right and press Settings . Under the General , checkmark on the option Sync Google Docs, spreadsheets, Presentasjoner- and Drawings files to this computer so you can edit them offline .

To use Google Docs offline, it should only be to go to docs.google.com in the Chrome browser when you’re offline. Google Docs apps on mobile / tablet supports however also offline editing.

# 5: Share and edit documents with others

One of the best things about Google Docs is that you can share documents with others so they too can edit it with you.

To share a document, click on the blue Del button at the top right or go to the File and select Del . Then enter the name of the people you want to invite in the text box that appears. You can choose to invited users can either edit, comment only on or just watch.

If you just want someone to look at a document without editing options, you can top the share window, click View Link that can be shared . A sharable link will be automatically copied to the clipboard, but you can also click on Copy the link – and then you can distribute it as you wish.
