Nødnett considering ordinary mobile network for data traffic – Fædrelandsvennen

Directorate for Emergency Communication (DNK) considering using networks of commercial providers – such as Netcom and Telenor – for data traffic. In this way also the police, fire and health care get to use heavy, data-intensive services such as video when it slams.

– Norway has benefited technology to emergency network as far as possible. So we must see if we can add more data. Then it is not so much choice, you have to sit on the commercial mobile networks, says Tor Helge Lyngstøl, director of the emergency network, to Bergens Tidende.

The idea is that networks of Telenor and NetCom will supplement emergency network for data traffic while all the talk and the most critical data traffic to go on the regular emergency network.

– The emergency network is excellent for it is made of, namely speech. On data is however interesting to use the commercial, Lyngstøl said.

The emergency network is encrypted providing everything from police to the local Red Cross group the opportunity to talk on the same lines. In an accident, both the police, air ambulance, civil defense and other easily communicate. (© NTB)
