Apple: – We did it on purpose – ITavisen.no

Confirms that it was not a blister.

Yesterday we wrote that it had been discovered that iOS 10 beta shipped without an encrypted core.

Apple confirms
was quickly speculated that it was a mistake by the company or that it was done intentionally to expose weaknesses in the operating system. Now confirms Apple to TechCrunch that they did it on purpose.

“The cache of the core does not contain user information, and by decrypting it we could optimize the performance of the operating system without jeopardizing safety,” says one of the company’s spokespersons.

It was MIT Technology who first reported about the weakness and sources they were in contact with said that iOS 10 are not completely exposed in that the core is not encrypted, but it makes it easier to find security weaknesses.

security expert Jonathan Zdziarski believes that “forgetting to encrypt core will be as bad as forgetting to install doors in an elevator.”

Zdziarski think that Apple may have chosen this opportunity to prevent weaknesses that made it possible for hackers / FBI to unlock iPhone in San Bernardino case.
