Cozy in the small class

If it is so that our school is closed, it is very sad. When no other children to experience what I have experienced, ” says 12-year-old Andrea Husås. She goes along with the five other students in the 7. class at Flora school.

– It is cosy to go in a small class. We give gifts to each other, and it had been a bit expensive if there had been 20 in the class. There is no bullying at the school. It can be a little drama sometimes, but not as often, ” says Husås.

She says that the best part of the Flora school is the trips they have pulled the whole school together, and the outdoor area that the kids have to frolic in.

Many students from the three schools had met up to express their no to the closure, and had with the posters which among other things said: “Skola mi gives me peace of mind”, “Think of the children” and “We love our school”.

– Dirty political game

Torunn Beathe Gederaas, one of the members of the “Aksjonsgruppa to preserve Skjelstadmark school”, held the appeal on behalf of the nedleggingstruede schools.

We are experiencing a dirty political game, where grendaskolene be used as a crowbar to promote own policies. It will save money to be able to take up loans in order to expedite the funding of a new skolebygg at Hegra. The outcome is that the living villages of our being razed. The school is the glue in the community, and the junction between the young and old, school and sports clubs. We lose the schools, we lose the cornerstones in the community, was among the she said to those who were present.

She tells us that if the children must go to school in Hegra, they will use about one and a half hour each day to get to and from school.

– This affects us so violently. We don’t want to have a nedleggingstrussel hanging over the village. It puts everything on pause, it stops tilflytting, stops the growth, and several refuse to move home again, ” says Gederaas, who hopes the local council will reject the proposal Thursday. They do not it, will a final decision in the matter coming in may next year.

Skjelstadmark now has 90 pupils at the school, but with the growth which is in the village now, it will according to the Gederaas be 110 pupils at the school about 3-4 years. If the school still exists.

There are 31 pupils at Forradal oppvekstsenter and 29 students at Flora school. All three are elementary schools.

Never tried before engagement

Mayor Ivar Vigdenes also held appeal Saturday. He is even raised on a farm in the small village Forradalen.

– This helps of course that I have a strong commitment in this matter. To go on grendaskole gave me a safe border around growing up and I would like to give my own children also, when the time comes, ” says Vigdenes.

He says that since he started in politics in 2003, he has never witnessed to engagement around a political issue in Stjørdal.

– Grendaskolene is extremely important. We know with certainty that many people choose to move out of the village because they have a different access to quality schooling. It is our responsibility to ensure that people can make their own decisions for themselves and their when it comes to school, ” says the mayor.

He says that if it is shutdown, will our savings be used to a greater and finer buildings than they otherwise could have built in Hegra. But that the students will get a school with lower lærertetthet.

And Stjørdal will compete to drive the cheapest school in the whole of Norway. There is probably no one who wants, he says, who hopes the proposal for closure is being added death as soon as possible.
