More young people on antidepressants – NRK

Figures from the reseptregisteret shows that the number of young users of the medicine for ADHD, antidepressants and the sleeping pills, and tranquilizers increased by 50,2%, from 2005 to 2015, writes studentavisen Khrono.

It accounts for about 23.918 new users in the age group from 20 to 29 years of age. There were a total of 71.534 users of the type of drugs in age group in 2015.

Adrian Lorentsson with the Mental Health of Youth, believes his time can make your young people extra prone to mental health problems.

Students are in a vulnerable situation, and they are a vulnerable group that we should take more seriously than today. Students often go around with a part of stress, both in terms of future prospects, but also the examination and karakterpress. Many are in a period of life where they work a lot and feel they do not extend to, and it can increase the risk of mental health problems, ” says Lorentsson to the newspaper.

He believes many do not know where to seek help.

the Survey also shows that the proportion of users is higher in women than in men.

“The fact that there are more women than men who get prescribed antidepressants due to enough both that more women are prone to this condition, but also that more women are more likely to seek help for this kind of pains than men,” explains Simon Øverland, medical director of mental health and substance abuse at the Norwegian institute of public health to studentavisen.
