Increasingly more young people on antidepressants – Sunnmørsposten

Figures from the Reseptregisteret shows that in one decade increased the number of users of psychotropic drugs in this age group with nearly 24.000. It is equivalent to an increase of 50,2 per cent, writes Khrono.

In the last year, there were over 71.000 users of psychotropic drugs in the age group 20 to 29 years of age.

Over 30,000 people aged 20 to 29 used antidepressants in the last year, an increase of 39 percent from 2005. For sleeping pills and sedatives, the increase is also 39 per cent to nearly 33.000 users.

The percentage increase is the highest when it comes to the use of ADHD medicine, 318 per cent, but at the same time, there are the fewest users of this type of drugs. In 2005 there were nearly 2.000 who used such drugs, ten years later the number of users in the 20-years of well 8.000.

Adrian Lorentsson, communications manager at Mental Health Youth (MHU), says his time can make your young people extra prone to mental health problems. (©NTB)
