In March this year sent Norwegian Seafood Association (NSL) an extensive concern to the Fisheries Minister on research conducted by the Institute of Marine Research (IMR).
IMR was criticized by NSL for his research salmon and sea trout in Guddal river in Kvinnherad.
NSL believed research was not as good as it should have been, and questioned whether HI had gathered research to give a negative image of the aquaculture industry’s impact on wild fish.
These allegations reacted HI strongly, and replied that they would not mind being seen in the cards for an end to the accusations.
A new review
Now they have gone through their research again, and black NSL on the allegations in a public response letter published on their websites.
– IMR considering that research is carried out have good scientific quality both in terms of implementation and interpretation, says Geir Lasse Taranger of Marine Research (IMR) to NRK.
– the research is partly pioneering, and has provided new and unique knowledge of both salmon and sea trout. The research results have been published in several international articles with peer review.
Do not change
2. REVIEW: Research at IMR Geir Lasse Taranger is the one who has led the 2nd review of research in Guddal river.
HI writes in the letter that in the expression of concern have been misunderstandings and factual errors. These one has tried to point out and correct.
IMR received one new disclosure requirements yesterday 13th April 2016 from Steenstrup Stordrange DA to be answered as soon as possible.
– Would you make any changes to the research results?
– IMR believes that controversial publication about sea trout measure. However, we see that the article could have provided even more detailed description of the experimental setups and raw data.
IMR promises to add raw data and other attempts details on their websites so others can verify the results.
met for a dishwashing meeting
NSLs lawyer Lars Alsaker sent a concern to fisheries Per Sandberg (FRP) on 2 March this year where there are a lot of questions about the institute’s research in Guddal river and Etneelva in Oslo.
In the meeting of the parties asked Sandberg about an independent review of HIs wild salmon research. Sandberg asked the parties into a dishwashing meeting, after long time of conflict between the organizers.
Fisheries Minister created an advisory council to go through HIs research report from Guddal river and consider criticism of the NSL.
Sandberg got refs from both political circles and from research after having stated that HI should be an industry-friendly Institute.
– the minister acts as if he should censor scientists and creates doubts about HI their research. It’s totally insane. Such ministers we do not need in Norway, said Torgeir Knag Fylkesnes (SV) in the industry committee in Parliament to NRK.
Later rejected the Minister that he is trying to influence the research.
