Apple: – We have the most effective security organization in the world – ITavisen.no

The company opens up about safety.

After heavy fighting outside the US authorities outside the courtroom, using Apple the opportunity to brag a bit of iPhone’s security.

Layers
security in iPhone consists of several layers, some of them are based on industry standards, while others are specific to the company’s hardware.

the protection starts with the chip inside. Boot ROM, or memory chip, containing a certificate or secret key that only Apple has access. Apple says that if an attacker wants to take over an iPhone by modifying iOS and run their own code, not software running since the attacker does not have access to the secret key.

This applies to iPhone 3GS and newer.

Tim Cook: – A threat to security.

Touch ID
Apple has also built an chain-of-security-command directly into the iOS software, also known as boot chain. This ensures that key or certificate is validated before iOS at all booting the phone.

Although it is possible with software errors, the architecture difficult for hackers to exploit weakness. “If you have millions of lines of code at the highest level in iOS, and only thousands of boot level, chances are very small for it to be a mistake on the lower level,” says Apple engineers.

Touch ID is also an important part of security measures. Before Apple introduced this feature in 2013, there were over half of the users who had put a passcode on your iPhone theirs. After Touch ID was launched, the number has reached 90 percent, says the company. (Touch ID requires the user to select a pass code.)
