In a month’s time, the city chairs situated in dock.
This happens every few years, because the sailing ship must be examined to detect damage and wear. As expected, there was something that needed to be fixed.
Part of the steel skeleton along mainmast was in such a bad condition that it had to be repaired.
– It’s not just to repair it. It’s cramped in the bottom, so for half week ago we had a volunteer where it was eased out 40 tons of ballast stones, says Jo Leif. G Strønen, which is boatswain on “Statsraaden.”
When the repairs were done, we had all the stone back.
Sacrificed Sunday
Saturday the sun shone on Laksevåg when about 20 volunteers took shipyard. Ready for action with uniforms and gloves as they went to work immediately.
One of them was Helge Ivar Hanchen Simonsen (11), who was ready for a solid effort.
– I do not know how many stones I should move, but I think it will be very, very , very many, he notes.
11-year-old was on hand with her mother, who got the idea when she read volunteer-solicitation on Facebook.

Rewarded with pizza
