Was put on hold in November, now it is dead.
Last year, Microsoft showed “Project Astoria”, a tool that will make it dead simple to port apps to Windows 10 Mobile.
Added death
After several months of uncertainty, confirming Microsoft that the project is dead. The statement coincides with the Windows manufacturer’s acquisition of the company Xamarin.
Xamarin is a company that solely focuses on developing flerplattformapper. Microsoft writes in a blog post that developers can easily develop applications for multiple platforms with existing C # code.
Focusing on one bridge
One of the problems is that there Astoria was confusing for developers to have two “bridges”. One for Android (Astoria) and one for iOS (Island Wood), writes Microsoft.
“We have considered this feedback and decided that we want to focus on ‘Windows Bridge” for iOS and make it the only bridge to get mobile code over to all Windows 10 devices, including the Xbox and PCs, “writes Microsoft’s Kevin Gallo.

Xamarin
project Astoria was, along with project Island Wood, a very ambitious project from Microsoft in an attempt to get more apps over to the Windows 10 platform.
Early testing showed that it went surprisingly smoothly to install Android apps on Windows 10 Mobile, but it was not all apps that worked with.
Now Microsoft hopes that Xamarin will contribute to more kvalitetsapper to Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile.
