The feud between the FBI and Apple in the US has now become a matter of principle policy.
Investigators from the FBI, through Judge Sheri Pym in Los Angeles, directed claims against Apple saying that they will assist the agency, writes Reuters.
Bs Apple build backdoor
the FBI request technical assistance from Apple to access an iPhone 5C belonging killer Syed Rizwan Farook.
He and his wife Tashfeen Malik was behind mass shootings in San Bernardino in December. Both were even killed in the attack.
The FBI has asked Apple construct a backdoor to secure information and to hack into phone Farook.
The CEO of Apple, Tim Cook describes the requirements from the FBI as jarring.
– the US government has made a claim to Apple that threaten the safety of our customers. We refuse to follow those orders, which goes far beyond legislation, writes Apple in a statement on its website.
In the press release he stresses that Apple has delivered all the data they had available, and offered the assistance of its experts .
But now Apple sets foot down.
– the FBI wants us to make a new version of the operating system for the iPhone, where we will drop more security. Ports such a program in the wrong hands, anyone who is in physical possession of an iPhone could unlock it. Authorities ask Apple undermine our users and decades of environmental work, says Cook.
No sense
He thinks the FBI’s desire could potentially ruin for millions of people.
– No reasonable person will accept this, says Cook.
He says the phone has been a big part of people’s privacy, and that it is among Apple’s most important job is to protect sensitive information.
– We have for many years used encryption to protect our customers, says Cook.
The FBI has since phone Farook was found attempting to hack into the iPhone. But investigators have not able to break through the security system.
– We have given the victims and their relatives a promise that we would do everything possible to give answers and find evidence in the case. The victims deserve nothing less. This is a step toward finding all the details of the San Bernardino attack, said District Attorney in California, Eileen Decker said.
Apple stresses that they have sympathy for the victims of the terrorist attack, and that they have great respect for FBI their work.
Even so, the program FBI now wants only the beginning of a dangerous trend.
– Policy makers may need to extend such claim, and ask Apple to build monitoring programs for messages, health data, financial information, location services and even to hack your camera without you knowing it, says Cook.
