Change to this date, you can destroy your iPhone for well – Tek.no

A newly discovered bug in iOS 8 and 9 can make your iPhone unusable and require handing your phone in for repair. It writes Apple Insider.

The bug is related to the date of 1 January 1970 which is the date when the Unix and Unix-like operating systems – such as iOS and OS X – starts his “era”.

If you set the date to January 1, 1970 setting menus to iPhone and restarts the phone, the phone will no longer be able to boot – but stop when displaying the Apple logo.

We warn strongly against doing this, since you probably have to send the phone in for repair to get it to work again.

According to a discussion thread on Reddit works neither a so-called DFU restore (Device Firmware Upgrade) or recovery via Recovery Mode. The restoration will be carried out, but the phone will still not boot after recovery.

It will reportedly be possible to disconnect the battery in the phone to get it to work again, but as we know it is to remove the battery in an iPhone is not particularly easy. A trip to the dealer is probably the best solution.

Although this is a serious error, you have to work a little to get it enabled. Phone refuses the first nation to change the date as far back as January 1, 1970 and you must repeat the process many times until you get put date to this date.

Some Reddit users believe the error could be related to the time zone feature, and that setting the date as far back in practice means that the clock is set to a value below zero.

The bug exploited now in a rather mischievous joke. At the forum 4chan circulating now a photo with a text that claims that you can enable a sort of retro mode and get the user interface to resemble the menus to the first Macs. All you have to do is supposedly changing the date to January 1, 1970, reboot your phone. Once again: Do not do this …
