Force Touch technology can make the iPhone screen capable to not only track your finger movements as before, but also feel how hard you press on the screen.
Touch in three dimensions
According to 9to5Mac has not Apple just copied over the functionality of their MacBook pointing plates, they have refined the technology to what they now call “3D Touch.”
3D Touch-screen in the next iPhone can namely, in addition to simply distinguish between a touch and pressure, get another pressure level. Thus expanded function to include both touch, a gentle touch and an even deeper pressure.
3D Touch screen on the next iPhone may for instance be used to trigger shortcuts and menus that allow you to navigate faster around the phone .
Opens for smarter navigation
Here are some more thought uses for the new 3D Touch screen:
- In the map, the technology can be used to start Navigation to a place with a harder pressure, instead of the way it is now where you first have to tap an icon to select Navigation, then press start to begin navigation.
- In the Music app should be able to press harder on the track you are listening to, and bring up the actions you usually do, such as the ability to add the song to a playlist or download it to your phone to listen to the “offline”
- Another feature that is tested according to one of the sources, is that you can press a little harder on the App icons and few shortcuts where the app you want to navigate. This may be going straight to voice mail when you press hard on the phone icon.
- Additional features will be the same as on the latest MacBook from Apple, for example, that you can use Force Touch on a web link to preview the page it goes to, or to see a preview of the contact card to a specific contact in phonebook, without having to navigate away from the contact list. You should also be able to look up the definition of words by pressing a little harder on them.
