It was fisheries minister Elisabeth Aspaker (H) which, together with Prime Minister Erna Solberg (H) presented the government calls a master plan for marine research in Tromsø. The goal is more innovation and greater value creation.
If we are to achieve the goal of a five-fold revenue from the seafood industry by 2050, we must focus on research, the message from the government.
– The coast and the maritime industry is struggling. This is not so much, but all of the missions that can go to the industry in these times, is good news, says Conservative Ove Trellevik to Maritime.no.
The Norwegian fleet of research vessels are among the world leaders but start pulling on the oars. The newest ship GO Sars, was built in 2003. Of the 100 million that will go to upgrading of marine research vessels, can as much as half go to the second newest ship, Johan Hjort 1990, the newspaper said.
– There is a general need for clean shipping technology upgrades on machinery, pumps, automation and electronics across the board. Much of the equipment on the boats are still original, says shipping boss Per Wilhelm Nieuwejaar at IMR. (© NTB)
