They love tech so much that they want to limit the tech. Recreates the “papirfølelsen … – Shifter (Blog)

reMarkable claim they have managed it Amazon, Apple, and Samsung do not have clear – create a tablet that is just as well to write and draw on that paper.

With reMarkable at Bislet in Oslo preppes it towards a exciting afternoon. Three years of hard work culminates Wednesday in a “prelaunch” of the small, secretive product. They have tried to lie low with what they have at the time. But there apparently have been rumors that a small gang in the middle of the north has got to something. Amazon, Apple, and Samsung should have given up – create a tablet that recreates papirfølelsen, the digital notatblokka.

– It is not so much information about us out there. But we have not been so secretive, it is more that we have been “hard at work”, says founder and CEO Magnus Haug Wanberg.

Paper technology

Entrepreneur of reMarkable describes itself as a “papirmann” who love new technology. He holds a master of science in industrial economics from NTNU, and has been by Harvard and MIT. He has all the time had the latest phones and laptops, but early well-known Magnus Haug Wanberg on the constant stress of constantly “being on”.

– We bøgges on all surfaces. There are notifications and pushvarsler, and all the time something such as deadlines, ” says Haug Wanberg.

He calls it an “epidemic”, where we are constantly interrupted by our digital devices.

– It’s easy to jump out of the zone if you have the chance. Everyone is talking about artificial intelligence, but we are preying on human intelligence. What happens to the concentration when we “attacked” on all of these surfaces, he asks.

Mottrend

When he was a student printed out all the examination papers, and left the laptop at home when he went to the reading room, in order not to be disturbed. When he later worked as a consultant at the Boston Consulting Group in a year’s time after his studies, printed he also published a paper in front of the meetings. That was how he got the idea to recreate the paper, but without the actual paper.

Entrepreneur calls the digital notatblokka a “mottrend-device”, a solution that forces you to concentrate on what you should concentrate on. Besides, to reproduce the read-, write – and tegnefølelsen from the paper, it has some very few features. There is no Facebook, no Instagram, no Twitter or other distracting elements.

– Testbrukerne loves it, and says one thing: do Not destroy it with putting in more functionality, ” says Magnus Haug Wanberg.

Impossible?

the Team has gradually grown since its inception in 2013. Although kjerneteamet is small, works with 25 to 30 people with the product. It has not just been a simple journey. Startupen went on an ever so slight bangs in the first year.

We were told that the product we wanted to create, it was impossible to make, ” says Haug Wanberg.

ever since the first handheld computers arrived on the market in the 90′s has hardwareprodusentene dabbled with to get to an equally good writing and tegneopplevelse that on paper, without that they have gotten it. It was supposedly impossible to recreate papirfølelsen fully, because the “digital paper” was too slow. The Norwegian startupen spent the next two years to crack the nut.

– In the past, there has been a buzz that someone in Norway has made it clear it was thought to be impossible. It was we who broke treghetskoden, ” says Haug Wanberg.

to get to this, they’ve partnered with several global hardwareselskaper, including E Ink, the world’s biggest player in e-paper. Sintef has also contributed. reMarkable owner, however, all the proprietary technology.

Quit Opera

Recently got the Henrik Falls on board as head of communication. He came from his job as a communications manager at Opera Software. Where has he heard the stories from the old days long enough.

– There’s something special to sit and listen to these stories, and then come to a little place yourself, and be with to build something. reMarkable consists of insane good guys who do something very exciting, ” he says.

You who come from a large enterprise, where you might have a little better time, and a little greater chance of being interrupted. How big a problem is it?

– I’ve been both in Find.en and the Opera, and think avbrytelsene is representative for the labour market in general. Even if the work is exciting in itself, there are so many derailments and distractions that go beyond productivity.

Dropped Kickstarter

Now it is time to hit the market. Shifter wrote recently about the action-startupen Flowmotion which has had great success with their crowdfunding with forhåndskjøp on Kickstarter. Remarkable choose to use their own channels to sell the product.

the Which provides more direct contact with customers, and we get them in our Facebook group. The information that we get from our customers, we use to Polish the finished product, ” says Haug Wanberg.

so Far does not have reMarkable had difficulty in obtaining investors to develop the product. Both institutional investors and engleinvestorer have been interested. reMarkable has big ambitions when they should bet on.

– We dare to say that we will bet globally, and believe that the entire world will care, ” says the company founder.

to begin with there will be online sales towards selected target groups such as students, teachers, creative industries, and other “professionals”, but they want to bet on to get in place in the store shelves, to get the common people as customers. They realize that it is difficult to convince potential buyers that they actually have managed to recreate the “papirfølelsen”.

We need to prove that what we say is right, get people to trust us through selected produktambassadører – let us test it, ” he says.

Faith to the vision

– If this becomes a success, one can well see that it gets complaints from both the one and the other, and even such as us, or learning platforms like Kahoot, with questions about to gain entry on the platform. How will you stand against such a push?

– We are still months away from the market. But there may come a situation where such a concept is very topical. We must be very faithful to our values when they are put to the test. It is guaranteed to be elegant ways to implement it, and still ensure learning and productivity. But we are going to be much more selective than other companies, ” says Magnus Haug Wanberg.

– But why haven’t Apple and Samsung launched this?

– They have, as said tried and thought that it is not possible. Amazon had a huge Kindle, but nor do they got it to be functional good enough that you got papirfølelsen. But we have been desperate to solve this problem, and when smart people are desperate enough, then they find a solution. We found something that worked.

– But you can’t say exactly what this new technology is?

– It’s secret.
