The Russian competition authority, FAS (Federal Antimonopoly Service), announced before the weekend that it has started an investigation of Microsoft after complaints from the Russian IT security firm Kaspersky Lab. The company shall also have sent a similar complaint to, among other things, the EU-commission.
Kaspersky Lab believes Microsoft has made it increasingly difficult for third-party vendors to offer antiskadevareløsninger to Windows, especially Windows 10.
Eugene Kaspersky, founder of Kaspersky Lab, confirms and elaborates on it all in a blog post.

Urge to throw out third-party solutions
Windows 10 comes with antiskadevareproduktet Windows Defender, and Microsoft attaches to a small extent hide the fact that the company wants Windows 10-users should consider to throw out any third-party products for the benefit of Windows Defender.
This was said completely public under the Microsoft Ignite conference earlier in the fall, by Chris Hallum, a product manager for the Windows Defender. Listen to the Hallum says in this video in the seconds after 58.30.
Among the difficulties that Kaspersky Lab and other vendors of antiskadevareprodukter have experienced, is a sharp reduction in the time providers have to make the products compatible with the upcoming, new versions of Windows. According to FAS, this period was reduced from two months to six days with Windows 10.
According to Kaspersky this resulted in many who upgraded to Windows 10, were told that their incompatible security software had been uninstalled and that Windows Defender had been turned on instead.
Now it is well over a year ago that Windows 10 was launched, and few of us installed it immediately – so it is unlikely that this has affected some large percentage of Windows users. In any case if it does not also apply to the major updates that Microsoft is going with Windows 10 once or twice a year.
Windows Defender is not something new. It has been included with Windows since Windows Vista and has since then emerged as a threat to third party security software.

Alleged abuse of market power
But Kaspersky also mentions other and more current examples in the blog post, among other things, about what happens when the licenses of the third-party security software must be renewed, and that the
We believe that Microsoft has used its dominant position in the market for operating systems to create competitive advantages for their own product. Company wonder his Defender-product of the user, which is not to the advantage with the starting point in protecting your computer against kyberangrep. The company also makes it difficult for other companies to get access to the market and infringe the interests of the independent developers of security products, key Kaspersky.
He shows in the blog post to the independent tests that tell you that Windows Defenders abilities to detect skadevare is poorer than the average in the industry. Listed Hallum in the Microsoft laws albeit that Windows Defender will soon be on a par with the best.
Kaspersky Labs has therefore made contact with the competition authorities in several countries and regions for a request that Microsoft be forced to provide it Kaspersky calls for Microsoft’s violations of antikonkurranse-law.

Here are the requirements
Specifically ask Kaspersky Lab that Microsoft be forced to provide independent suppliers with access to new versions and updates of Windows in good enough time that they can maintain the compatibility with the operating system. Also, please that Windows already before the upgrade is performed, informs the users that it is incompatible software on your system, and that the user should install a compatible version after the upgrade is performed.
Moreover, Kaspersky Lab that it always asked the user’s explicit consent before the Windows Defender is activated.
Kaspersky type for the way that in Windows, this is not only a problem for the IT security products, but also in connection with web browsers, gaming, image viewing, and processing of multimedia files and PDF documents.

– Microsoft Russia, Kaspersky Lab has a long history of cooperation in various areas. Microsoft is committed to working entirely in accordance with the Russian legislation. The company has not received any official notification from the FAS. As soon as we do this, we will consider it carefully, named it in the statement.
It is unclear what is the status of the complaint as Kaspersky Lab has sent to the EUROPEAN commission.
Real need?
Kaspersky believes that the only thing that really earn in a monopolisation of kybersikkerhetsmarkedet, are the villains. With the same software on many, or of the devices, it is far easier to gain unauthorized access to many units when you first have managed to penetrate through an opening.
at the same time so that such security software is not the only thing that protects today’s pc users. Many uses today email, where all content is sikkehetsskannet by the contractor. In addition, most web browsers built-in functionality that warns or blocks known skadevare.
Many Windows users will may think that they are well enough protected with this and Windows Defender.
Still happens very often that skadevare lets through, in any case, the many cases of businesses that have been exposed to utpressingsvare (ransomware), is a clear proof of that.
Survey: – Utpressingsvare has hit two out of five businesses
