Daydream is Google and Android’s new VR initiative, really a whole platform of solutions launched at Google IO in may. It sets its own standards for both the VR-glasses and phones, which should be slipped inside, and is an integral part of Android. It means that we can expect both compatible mobile phones and the VR-glasses from the other players than Google in time to come.
But it is Google itself that is launching the first products, with Google Pixel and Daydream View. We got to try the solution in London on lanseringskvelden.

Daydream View vs the Gear VR
It is natural to compare the Daydream View with the Samsung Gear VR, which is also a relatively lavish VR-spectacle for your mobile. Where the Gear VR only fits with Samsung’s top models, to Daydream after each fit with a variety of Android mobiles. But from day 1 is the only Pixel that is fully compatible. It is worth noting that Facebook owns Oculus, which again stands behind the Gear VR with Samsung. This VR-the battle is thus between the giants Facebook and Google.
New design
There are limits to how different the VR glasses can look like with the current selected technology, but Google has definitely gone in a different direction than the Gear VR. Where the latter has gone for white and dark plastic, has Google taken into klesdesignere to get the right look on the glasses.
the Result is a tøypreget appearance, which is clearly more stuevennlig than the competitor. It should also be 30 per cent lighter, and is missing toppstroppen over the head that Samsung uses. The adaptation of brillen went quite smoothly when we tried, and according to Google it should be well suited to spectacle wearers. We think it is easy to adjust how tight brillen to sit on, but also observed that the other missed toppstroppen for perfect fit and support.
For the rest, we appear to Daydream VR of appearance resembles quite a lot on Norwegian Moviemask, which also have gone for a similar design on their glasses. Judge for yourself: Think 2D is the new 3D.
VR-mode
the Mobile phone goes right in VR-mode when inserted in the Daydream View, so that it shows one image for each eye. Thus one gets a VR-effect with 3D.
We felt it was a little styrete to get the right utgangssynsvinkel each time the glasses should be tested, and in contrast to the Gear VR, we had also a remote controller that had to be calibrated and connect via bluetooth. We will assume gets easier. The xbox controller is a little bit like one gets with the more advanced glasses such as the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, but lacks the advanced romsensorene.
the Controller tags when you move and turn on it, but not when you move it around the room. It takes some time to get used to, and is clearly a big limitation in relation to the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift. And it was going for as far as just missing. The Gear VR only has a navigasjonsplate on the side of brillen, so Daydream View is after all more advanced options.
Apps
Well inside the Daydream-VR we find ourselves inside in a cartoonish landscape, where a variety of apps pop up. We had seen on a Youtube 360-video, an advanced Harry Potter experience and a VR-custom edition of Google Street View.
It is clear that Google has done a good tilpasningsjobb with the Pixel, we see that the sensors hangs well in the turns and provides a clear picture even with a lot of movement. 360/VR-video looks very good in the Youtube app, and the controller provides new possibilities in Street View, and not least in the Harry Potter experience where it was a magic wand we could swing with.
With the controller has enough Daydream View a big advantage over the Gear VR when it comes to games and experiences. So we get to see how the competition tilspisser further on.
This has only just started.
Launching soon
Google Daydream View will go on sale from november, at a price of 79 dollars (around 630 million). This basically applies only to the united STATES, and we never got any answers on when the glasses will come to Norway, and what the price in that case will be.
The same uncertainty applied to Google’s new toppmobiler:
We got to try the Google Pixel XL – mobile phone that supposedly has the “world’s best mobile camera”
