the Agreement was therefore entered into between Norway, the faroe islands and the EUROPEAN union. The quota is determined based on established management plan and kvoterådet from ICES, as well as on the basis of a management plan for mackerel which the three coastal states agreed in 2015. The coastal states also agree to start work on a new management plan in 2017 on the basis of a new benchmark for mackerel that ICES will add up.
-This must be considered as a good solution for Norway, but it is of course unfortunate that the agreement still does not include all coastal states, ” says the second deputy chairman of Norges Fiskarlag Bill Heggebø as represented Fiskarlaget in forhandlingsdelegasjonen together with Jonny Berfjord and Audun Maråk.
the Quota is allocated with respectively 229 821 tonnes to Norway, 128 655 tonnes to the faroe islands and 503 245 tonnes to the EU. The distribution of makrellkvoten between Norway, EU and faroe islands is based on fordelingsnøkkelen which was established in trepartsavtalen from 2014. It includes a share on 159 275 tonnes of totalkvoten to other coastal states and other states fishing mackerel in the international waters.
Fiskeriminister Per Sandberg also says he is satisfied with that the three coastal states agreed on a quota for 2017.
” It is positive that makrellbestanden is in good condition, and that we have the basis to set a higher quota than in 2016.
this Year’s kyststatsforhandlinger about the mackerel was held in Clonakilty in Ireland 18.-19. October 2016.
the Agreement is in line with the recommendations from the Fiskarlaget and fishing Boat. The situation for makrellbestanden is very positive, in addition, it is very good recruitment to the population, ” says the managing director of a fishing Boat, Audun Maråk.
