Statnett will sell unused power plants – Future Requirements

The new grid infrastructure provides both savings and improved security of supply, concludes Statnett on their websites.

Therefore, they decided to initiate a process to sell the gas power plant at Tjeldbergodden when the new 420 kV power line between Ørskog Sogndal is finished. Similarly power plant at Nyhamna in Aukra Statnett will retain some.

This is because it has an additional function related to events at the compound Viklandet Fræna, It is natural to see this in the context of a planned concept study for duplex supply to Nyhamna. A potential sale process for this facility will not be started until this is clarified, writes Statnett.

probability low

It was after the winter of 2002/2003, with high prices and a strained power situation that Statnett 2005/2006 established possible methods for handling critical energy situations, abbreviated SAKS.

Now they believe the likelihood of such situations is very low. Partly emerges from a report they delivered to NVE in December last year.

Since the previous report is both energy balance and network capacity improved, turn Statnett firm.

NVE has approved SAKS initiatives, including the two mobile gas power plants.

Major developments

When it comes to concrete what has happened since the crisis winter 2002/2003 highlighted an extensive development activity to improve security of supply .

The new 420 kV connection between Ørskog and Sogndal will contribute to this in Central Norway, establishes.

When the wire Ørskog- Sogndal is finished, reduced likelihood of rationing Central Norway, and it will be equally low probability of rationing there as in the rest of the country, writes Statnett.

– This is an important development, says executive director Øivind Rue.

But he adds that SAKS initiatives are costly, and that this clarifies how important development projects for power and security of supply.

– Meanwhile, measures have been an important emergency function, which we fortunately have not had to take advantage of.

The first thing that happens when you are reducing the SAKS initiatives have not with the wiring to do.

Starting with the upcoming season will be reduced purchase of energy options. This cost the company 25 million during winter 2014/15.

Power Linja stopped in court

When the sale of the power plant at Tjeldbergodden can happen is uncertain.

For, there is an ever so small reefs in the sea in relation to power line between Sogndal and Ørskog-.

Em ruling from Fjordane County Court has in fact the result that Statnett not get access to a 2.5 km long stretch through Sørdalen in Bremerton, writes Sunnmørsposten Saturday.

Communication Manager Martha Hagerup Nilson Statnett tells the newspaper that they will use the next few days to study the ruling and consider what can be done to get the project back on track. She asks for understanding that Statnett need some time before they can say with certainty what the concrete consequences for progress and project economics are, and it is uncertain whether the power line can be completed in 2016.

– Statnett concession on a route, and we must deal with, says Nilsson.

Critical Haltbrekken

The reserve power and any use of them has been controversial ever since they came into place and even when they should be wound up not disappear storm.

Conservation Association leader, Lars Haltbrekken says among other things, to TU Statnett has painted the devil on the wall when they described the power crisis in Central Norway.

– Statnett should have known better. We were among those who said that there is no hold in their contention power crisis. There has been a massive waste of money, says Haltbrekken on.
