It cost a billion and was never adopted. Now sells Statnett … – Technical Magazine

Fear of power shortages and prolonged extreme prices in Central Norway did Statnett built reserve power plants at Tjeldbergodden and Nyhamna, each with a capacity of 150 MW. The total price tag was according Statnett 2.1 billion.

The power plants were completed in 2009. Since then informs Statnett spending 170 million to keep them in readiness. The power plants have never been adopted.

Now, however Statnett about to build power line between Ørskog and Fardal. The scheduled to be ready in 2017.

Then, according to Statnett no longer be used for power plants to prevent rationing, since the risk of rationing will be as low as in the rest of the country.

Tjeldbergodden first

Therefore alerts Statnett that they will initiate a process to sell the power plant at Tjeldbergodden. At a sales facility will be dismantled and set up somewhere else, most likely abroad.

Statnett will however wait to sell the gas power plant at Nyhamna. It has in fact also a function as a backup for gas processing same place.

Statnett is now underway with a concept study to improve security of supply for gas processing plant at Nyhamna. Then one of the options to build another line to Nyhamna, so the plant gets duplex supply.

Then there will in case no longer be a need for the power plant. A potential sale process will not be started until this is clarified, writes Statnett.

– Solid waste

Conservation Association leader Lars Haltbrekken is very critical to Statnett gas adventure in Central Norway.

– Here Statnett painted devil on wall when they described the power crisis in Central Norway a few years ago. Statnett should have known better. We were among those who said that there is no hold in their contention power crisis. There has been a massive waste of money, says Haltbrekken to TU.

He believes the money could have been used to give people in Trøndelag and Møre og Romsdal support for energy efficiency.

– We calculated that for the mobile gas power plants could every household in the three middle Norwegian counties received covered half of the investment cost of an air to air heat pump. That would give effect on the power situation. These mobile pollution bombs did not leave any kind of effect, except that one has dug money out the window, said Haltbrekken.

– But it might just have been lucky. If you had an extremely cold winter, could risked being without electricity?

– No. For then would also heat pumps and support to reduce energy consumption in households had significantly greater effect. This has been senseless spending. Statnett has acted neck over head, in a panic, says Haltbrekken.

– Important preparedness

Communication Manager Henrik Glette Statnett rejects criticism.

– This has been important beredsskapstiltak which we fortunately have release the need to use, he said.

Meanwhile he denies that support for heat pumps and energy efficiency in the region had sufficient power to ensure the necessary security of supply.

Glette says it is too early to estimate how much money they will regain power plant.

He has no idea about who might be appropriate to buy power plants.
