- Do not be afraid to train in city air – NRK

The researchers examined whether physical activity in urban environments influenced the risk of an early death, as deeper respiration makes exerciser is more exposed to air pollution.

– But no, we arrived at was that the physical activity outweigh air pollution, said Zorana Jovanovic Andersen, a lecturer at the Centre for Epidemiology and screening at Copenhagen University.

– The who do not exercise are also affected by the bad air, but they do not get the positive effect that exercise provides, adds to the lecturer.

The researchers collected data from 52,000 Danes living in urban and villa areas in the Danish capital and in Aarhus. The study has been ongoing since 1993.

In 2010, 5,000 of the participants died, and the researchers could see that there were 20 percent fewer deaths among those who were physically active compared with those who did not exercise.

Gender or residence had no impact on the result, according to the researchers.

Andersen believes that it is better to train in the park or forest, if one has the opportunity.
