Microsoft presentation that opened their annual developer conference, Build, had no right as great news to offer.
One of the most startling is that Windows 10 on your mobile will be able to run applications from both Android and iOS.
There has been talk about a solution for Android applications on Windows 10, which Microsoft connoisseur Paul Thurrott called for suicide, while iOS support is new.
Everything on Windows
It will require some work from the developers, but the potential is still very large.
Microsoft will offer two development kits that will make it easy to port apps from Android and iOS to Windows 10. In short, it will allow developers to reuse an awful lot of existing code, and publish apps on the Windows platform with little modification.
For iOS shall be provided programming interface developed by Microsoft that keeps the iOS code to communicate with Windows. Developers will have to recompile the software for the solution to work.

For Android will be software based support in Windows to run Android applications with fewer modifications, where large parts of the code will be reused. Ideally, should the developers eventually could bake into specific Windows features into applications, such as Cortana, Xbox Live or holograms.

The popular game Candy Crush Saga is now available on Windows Phone should have been ported from iOS with this method, which Microsoft collaborated with developers in secret.
It boils down to let developers create applications for three platforms in a simple way, with most code reuse.
Microsoft announces two methods to get apps onto Windows Store, in addition to iOS and Android support. Developers will also be able to reuse code from web applications and .Net applications. Such traditional programs will therefore be bought and downloaded from Microsoft’s online store without having to deal with the developers’ own solutions. One example of this is Photoshop. To run such applications on Windows 10 will also involve some virtualization technologies. Thus, it is interesting to see how it affects performance.
Browser on the edge
Microsoft also showed much more of its new browser. The units no longer Project Spartan – the official name is Microsoft Edge.
Edge will support extensions developed for Google’s Chrome – and Mozilla’s Firefox, which could be easily converted into Microsoft’s format. In addition to this point Microsoft already familiar features: Cortana, notes on sites and reading mode without interference. The ability to run extensions from other browsers, like applications from other operating systems, is undoubtedly important. Microsoft’s strategy to be open for most users is in full effect here.

And most users is the company aims: During the presentation said Windows boss Terry Myerson that they envisage a billion devices with Windows 10 within two to three years . It’s an ambitious plan, and the fact that Windows 10 will be a free upgrade during the first year after launch will certainly help.

Integration of third-party apps in the Office is also something that is on its way and should be part of the Office 2016 package. A concrete example: Being able to order an Uber-modern appointments stored in your Outlook calendar.
Unfortunately, it is still unclear when Windows 10 comes – it’s still summer is the time of launching, without a concrete date.
