Game: Finally we know what it can and can not.
Sony has been very quiet about the functionality of the Playstation VR device that everyone likes to make assumptions about, but the 2016 Game Developers Conference so relieved the little skirt.
– It is not additional GPU or CPU power, and it is definitely not a Playstation 4 expansion or upgrading said Chris Norden from Sony during the conference.
So what does it do then?
Sound
box handles 3D object-based audio. In other words, do not need developers to think in what direction you look, or how you are relative to the sound source. A developer puts simple sound source’s in the virtual space and Playstation VR box takes care of the rest.
– All major headsets do this, but we have added our own constituents. You can hear elevation easily, with the players can actually pointing in the direction you think sound is coming from, say, the Nordic countries.

screen Sharing
unit is also responsible for displaying the “social screen” which is Sony’s term for the second screen you can use with Playstation VR.
with it you can display two different images, either in mirror mode where both VR headset and the primary display shows the same, or a split-mode where VR headset and the primary display shows different content.
About the latter mode says Chris Norden that developers need to show some restraint in how they design content.
– you’re not going to get Uncharted 4 graphics on 60 herz / 1080p also could render out even a 1280 × 720 buffer, you must scaling things back, put the Nordic region.
Cinema Croatian mode
finally, there is this no longer so mysterious device that handles display when Playstation VR headset is used in cinematic mode .
