Finally rolled Windows 10 Mobile out to older mobiles – digi.no

Microsoft announced yesterday, more than a quarter later than originally announced, that a selection of the existing Windows Phone 8.1 devices now can be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile. Until now Windows 10 Mobile only been available on the new Lumia models that have been launched since November last year.

List

Exactly when the upgrade will be available to the individual, depends on several factors. The most important is the mobile one actually has. Initially, the list is limited to Lumia models Lumia 1520, 930, 640, 640XL, 730, 735, 830, 532, 535, 540, 635 1GB, 636 1GB, 638 1GB, 430 and 435, in addition to the units BLU Win HD w510u, BLU Win HD LTE x150q and MCJ Madosma Q501.

Support for additional models will probably eventually. Several of the models included in Windows 10 Mobile Insider Program, is not included in the list above.

Users who want to upgrade, it is recommended to download the utility Upgrade Advisor from the Windows Store, including can help the user to free up space for the upgrade.

Functionality Changes

Windows 10 Mobile comes with a lot of news, such as better home screen, improved Cortana, support for universal Windows apps Hello and Continuum. But some functionality is hardware dependent, such as Hello and Continuum, and something only supported in certain countries. An overview can be found here (be sure to select the mobile edition top of the page).

On the same page there is also an overview of the functionality that Windows Phone 8.1 has, but that disappears with Windows 10 Mobile. It is perhaps not on the most crucial functionality for most people, but can be useful to be aware of before upgrading.

The upgrade consists of a file of about 1.4 gigabytes. It can only be installed on devices with Windows Phone 8.1 version GDR1 QFE8 or later.
