Spotify finish the year with a lot of lawsuits – ITavisen.no

Musician will have 1.3 billion kroner in compensation.

At the end of the year, the musician David Lowery directed a lot of lawsuits against music pouring giant Spotify.

Illegal distribution
Lowery claims that Spotify knowingly has distributed copyrighted material, writes Billboard. The musician wants at least 150 million US dollars in damages. 1.3 billion, for what he claims are illegal distribution of several of his songs.

According to Lowery Spotify has inflicted authors considerable damage by failing to obtain the genuine licenses for reproduction and distribution. Among other things, Spotify have duplicated or shared several songs from the band Cracker – that Lowery is a part of.

Will pay
The Verge writes that it seems like Spotify understand that parts of their content may violate copyright laws, and musician Lowery claims that pouring service has a bank backlog of 17-25 million dollars, from 150 to 218 million, to pay royalties that have not been distributed to the artists.

– We are obligated to pay songwriters and publishers every penny. Unfortunately, and particularly in the US, the information will need to verify correct licensees, often incomplete or incorrect. When we do not know exactly who the copyright holder is, we put aside royalties until we have confirmed the identity, says a spokesperson for Spotify to The Verge.
