More and more are adopting DAB radios at home and in three years, a large number of Norwegians adopted digital radio sets.
At the end of 2015 there were about 2.8 million DAB radios in Norway. Three years ago the corresponding figure was about 0.8 million DAB radios. The figures presented in the Digital radio survey, conducted by TNS Gallup
– This is a strong indication that we see a digital transformation in radio habits. DAB radios are becoming common in the thousands of homes and we see in practice a sliding shift in usage habits. The majority of the survey state that good sound and more channels is what they appreciate the most by DAB radio, says Ole Jørgen Torvmark, general manager of Digital radio Norway.
26 per cent of listeners have radio in the car , according to the survey, which is conducted in the fourth quarter of 2016 until Christmas. All cars can be upgraded with a radio or DAB adapter.
Digital listening is strong
DAB, internet and television will together replace national radio broadcast on the FM band.
Digital radio survey shows that radio listening on digital platforms is strong in everyday listening pattern.
57 per cent of listeners hear daily on the radio digitally – either via DAB, online or tv.
DAB is the most used by digital platforms and has a steadily increasing audience figures.
– According to the survey, the oldest section of the population who mostly listen to digital radio, explaining Torvmark.
Good knowledge of the shift
From 2017 the DAB network take over as the primary distribution of national radio.
86 percent know that there is a transition from FM to digital radio in Norway. 94 percent are aware that there are regular DAB radios and 82 percent know that there are DAB radio solutions for car.
– There follows a huge need for information around a large digital conversion like this and there are many who should have practical information in the two coming years. Therefore, it is reassuring to see that there are already many who are aware of the shift and devices, says Torvmark.
