How will the thieves stopped – Rome Blad

Passengers with excess luggage and valuables can be easy prey for thieves. Especially in summer.

– The summer is unfortunately not only high season for tourists, but also for criminals, and like everywhere else in society is experiencing both police and Oslo Airport, an increase in the number of thefts, says the director of safety and environmental staff at Oslo Airport Ole Jørgen Holt Hanssen.

He mentions two reasons for the increase: Many travelers and travelers who are not like traveling usual.

Organised gangs

During the summer months will therefore be intensified pursuit of criminals at the main airport.

– Normally it will be more visible police and staff at the terminal will follow closely. They look especially for people who behave a little differently than the usual passenger. Airport assistants have been trained by police in what to look for, says Holt Hanssen.

However, it may be difficult to detect thieves before it is too late. They are professionals and are often well organized.

– They often work more together and use different methods to cover each other and distract people that can expose them, said police superintendent Kristian Krohn at Romerike police.

It is not uncommon with gangs of three or four people. One sitting in a waiting car outside. The other is inside the departure hall, usually neatly dressed and rolling in a suitcase. While some of them diverts, whether the victim or other travelers, turns thief.

– It does not require many seconds inattention before the holiday may get a bad start. An open bag or a jacket that hangs over the baggage trolley are easy targets for thieves.

Krohn encourages people to contact the police as soon as possible if they discover that they have been robbed of cases.

– In this way, the police will have a better starting point to be able to get hold of the thieves.

Keep an eye on your luggage

The most important passengers can do to prevent that one is stripped of valuables are always having the eyes of your luggage.

It is especially in the departure hall that people are encouraged to follow extra handy. Here is often stress level is higher and the focus is often more on orienting themselves or to check in.

To help reduce the problem will Oslo Airport this summer remind travelers to be extra attentive to making sure valuables through information on the monitors in the departure hall and in social media.

This is the police and the Oslo Airport’s travel in the summer:

■ Keep an eye on your luggage and valuables.

■ Hide away valuables.

■ Bring the trolley until vending machines or counter. Most thefts happen when people leave luggage to check in, find route information or shop.
