Also, Apple has contributed to an explosion of DuckDuckGo.

Google has been king of the hill the last 15 years and it still is.
Snowden and Apple
But there have been several new engines over the past decade, some more familiar than others. We have for example Bing, Microsoft’s contribution, and the somewhat more obscure DuckDuckGo.
However, a partial truth that the latter is an unknown search engine. It now turns out that it starts to become quite familiar. The reason? Snowden, NSA and Apple.
As a result of all revelations Snowden has made since 2013, the focus on privacy and security increased sharply in all walks of life.
600 percent in two years
One consequence of this is that more and more open my eyes for DuckDuckGo – a browser that does not collect information about their users, and that put your privacy at the forefront.
Since the first Snowden revelations in 2013, has DuckDuckGo experienced a growth of 600 percent. There is certainly enough to be called an explosion.
– It carried three billion searches a year, so we’ve already become quite mainstream, says the commander of the search engine, Gabe Weinberg, to CNBC.
Can be set as the default search engine
Another important reason why more people are using DuckDuckGo, is that Apple has made it easier to actually use the search engine.
When iOS 8 was launched last year Apple made an important change; one could finally put DuckDuckGo default search engine. At the moment you can choose between Google, Yahoo, Bing and DuckDuckGo in iOS.
– Does not have to track you to make money
But how the hell servant latter money? Gabe Weinberg explains:
– It is a myth that you need to follow users to monetize search. We earn money only with keywords advertising. You enter a car type, and you get a car adverts. It really is just as straightforward. Google spurs you on all other sides because they own a giant ad networks, so they must have the search engine to track you.
