Oil slicks outside Jeløy – Moss Avis

The NCA has requested assistance from the fire department in Moss after it is discovered an oil slick without for the west side of Jeløy.

KV Nornen was already out.

– But they want more assistance from us, says fire chief in MIB, Rune Larsen.

He has not yet overview of what type of oil in question.

– We are preparing now in relation to oil levy on Jeløy and make clear all of drainage equipment, said Larsen.

Fog

According to Stig Nordaas, shift leader at the emergency center for acute pollution in NCA, it has been difficult to get an overview of the slick.

– Because of the fog we have not been able to send out a patrol, he said.

KV Nornen has entered into Horten to extract quick boom.

– It shall they use to gather up as much oil as they can, he said.

Also Oil Spills 03 from NCA is looking to assist KV Nornen with an overview of the oil spill. There are also two workboats out with a small boom at Jeløy Since to prevent the oil coming into the country.

Neither Nordaas have an overview of what type of oil in question, or where it originated.

Steady

Oil Strip is located in east-west direction. According Nordaas is slick reasonably stable, but it cracks up and follow the local streams.

He says it is difficult to estimate how much oil we are talking about, and says it can see much on the surface, although the amount is not so great.

The first reports were that it was about a sheet of 1 meter times 200 meters, but at quarter past two o’clock has stretched out to about one kilometer in length.

The last messages is that slick is located several hundred meters into the bay, and there should be no danger of compromising against Jeløy.

According to Rune Larsen should not be a hazard to wildlife.
