This is the biggest news from Google I / O.
Last night Norwegian time was kicked off Google’s annual I / O conference.
Many news
It was expected that the company would announce some form of virtual reality, more about Android “N” and that Android apps are compatible with Chrome OS. Although the latter was not discussed during the first day, it has been confirmed that this is something that is on the way.
This is the biggest announcements from day one:
Android “N”
Google can not hate a big event without talking about their main software platform. The next version of Android has still only codename N and diverting millions of Android users waiting for Android 6, the company released a new beta version of Android N.
Google has improved its performance since the last beta version and and will soon take advantage of graphics API Vulcan.
they also made multitasking more streamlined and Android N is limited to the seven latest apps. In addition, it becomes possible split-screen viewing and picture-in-picture.
Watch the video below to learn about all the new in this version.
Google Daydream
This is Google’s virtual reality platform and is built directly on top of Android “N”. Daydream is by no means intended as a competitor to Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, but is more advanced than Google Cardboard and a more direct competitor to Samsung Gear VR.
Google has already built VR versions of apps YouTube Street View, Google Play Store, Play Movies and Photos. Companies like Ubisoft, Electronic Arts, Netflix and HBO also plans to create apps for Daydream.
A VR headset
Before the conference was the rumor that Google would announce a own VR headset, it did not happen. Instead they showed up a reference design for a VR headset driven by smartphones.
Google also makes reference design for smartphones – including Nexus 5X which we tested last year – which may mean that the time also will launch a VR headset.
Allo and Duo
Engine giant has announced two new Messengers. Allo has its own chatbot in addition to standard messaging features such as emoticons, stickers and ability to draw on images. All messages are also end-to-end encryption.
Duo is a direct competitor to video services like Skype and Apple’s FaceTime. The app should be easy to use and has a feature Google calls “Knock Knock” and allows people you call to see a video preview of you before he or she responds.
Google Home
not so surprisingly, Google announced a direct competitor to Amazon Echo. It will have several of the same features as Amazon’s equivalent and is powered by Google’s Assistant technology.
Google Home is built on Chromecasts standard so that it is possible to send media to other Cast-enabled speakers and screens.
Android Instant Apps
Perhaps the most interesting news. Soon you can run Android applications without downloading them to your device.
