Oculus blocking Vive gaming – ITavisen.no

The company locks platform with DRM.

In the middle of last month found some fool VR players how to play Oculus Rift exclusive games on HTC Vive with app Revive .

Blocks access
Oculus was quick with a statement in which they stated that they in no way were particularly excited about this and described it as “a hack.”

“this is a hack, and we do not accept it. Users expect that hacked games do not work infinitely as regular software updates to games, applications and our platform will most likely destroy the hacked software, “the company said at the time.

Now the company has released a new update for VR headset that blocks the ability to play Rift games like Lucky’s Tale and Oculus Dreamdeck HTC Vive.

Checks against DRM
CrossVR, one of the developers behind Revive , writes that Oculus now check that the headset is connected to Oculus Platform DRM to prevent non-Oculus headset connects to the system.

There must be a way to sneak past the catch but the user is dependent on consumer version of Oculus Rift or the other developer kit. At the same time released a new version of Revive with a comprehensive explanation of how to circumvent DRM lock.

The two VR contenders seem to focus on exclusive content to attract customers, many players fear.
