The government allocates new study in the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PPU) to universities and colleges around the country, aimed at people with technological or scientific background.
In all, be 350 new student places created, as part of the package of measures for unemployed engineers, which was launched in connection with next year’s budget.
University of Stavanger today announced that they have awarded 60 new study in Education and that they also make it easier for engineers to get into the program.
Startup is already in week one in 2016.
Large demand from engineers
By the end of October 6853 engineers registered as unemployed with Nav. Rogaland is the county that are most affected, with 1,535 unemployed engineers.
The University of Stavanger is among the institutions that have been awarded study in Education, a total of 60 seats, half of which will commence just after New Year.
The development of the labor market in the district has made the university this year has marked particularly large influx of engineers to its PPU studies.
– Unfortunately, it has been shown that many of these have not been formally qualified for admission, particularly due to lack of credits in mathematics. Now, 60 new student and an additional arrangement make it easier for engineers to fit on the study, says Odd Magne Bakke, Head of Department of Cultural Studies and Linguistics at the University of Stavanger, in a statement.
Missing math
Many engineers missing some credits in math, to be eligible PPU studies. To gain admission to PPU general normally requires 180 credits and 60 credits in at least one school subject.
For the study that begins in January, the requirement at least 60 credits in science and / or math.
Now it is intended that applicants with a minimum of 30 credits in mathematics can apply for admission to mathematics didactics, but do not get awarded diplomas for completing PPU before the remaining 30 credits in the subject is passed.
– We’re working on making sure that students who do not meet the admission requirement of 60 credits within one of the didactic subjects offered, you can take the missing blanks parallel to the PPU, says the head of department.
Thus, it easier for engineers to qualify for PPU studies.
Both full- and part-time studies
PPU general qualify to work at middle and secondary schools in primary and secondary schools and adult education.
The University of Stavanger starts up the first 30 study places already for the spring semester, and deadline for the program is thus set as early as December 1.
It will go over three semesters. Students will take 15 credits pedagogy with lectures one day a week in the first semester.
In the autumn of 2016 is a full-time semesters with 30 credits, 15 in education and 15 in didactics. In addition, the practice of six weeks.
The spring 2017 is a part-time semester with 15 credits didactics in the afternoon and six weeks of work experience.
The 30 students to be recorded additional to the next harvest goes as full-time or part-time students who go over one or two years.
No dagpengeendringer
However, although it is now easier for engineers and other science graduates to study pedagogy, it will probably not be easier to combine studies with unemployment benefits.
The main rule is namely that it is in education or training are not entitled to unemployment benefits. There are a number of exceptions, but full-time studies which runs over three months are not covered by these.
TU has previously written about the unemployed engineer Karine Huuse, who took a mattefag to qualify for PPU studies . She was deprived of unemployment benefit for a remote study with four day teaching.
The government has also been clear that it does not want to change the rules for unemployment benefit, for it to be easier for unemployed engineers to educate themselves for teachers.
