Naturvernforbundet ber Støre la oil lie – Aftenposten

– Norway, the world’s fourth largest producer of fossil energy must obviously leave much of its fossil energy will remain if we are to avoid the worst consequences of climate change, says Conservation Association leader Lars Haltbrekken.

Haltbrekken asking which countries we can expect to take the decision not to extract all available oil and gas, not Norway are spearheading such a clear environmental policy.

Do not be pressured

– If we do not allow anything to rest, who can we expect do it? Poor countries? The world has found up to seven times as much fossil fuel we can burn off. We have no time to wait for a global CO2 price that puts the boom of the most expensive Norwegian fields, says Haltbrekken.

He is now asking Minister and other Norwegian politicians show that they really want to do something about climate threat .

– We need politicians that addresses climate threat seriously, which limits oil companies’ access to new acreage and that is impossible to squeeze the oil industry’s short-term interests. We hope Labor’s new leader will be one of these, say Haltbrekken.

Uncertainty

Wednesday morning presented the trade association Norwegian oil and gas a report Jonas Gahr Støre held up as a source of uncertainty Norwegian petroleum policy. The report predicted also that Labor will change its policies in a more environmentally friendly direction.

Støre emphasized later that day his views on the Norwegian oil and gas policy:

– I have not advocated for the Norwegian oil should be left underground, underlined Minister.

– If I am the biggest reason for concern in the industry, they have small problems, said Labor leader.

Non-repellent

Minister rejected however, that some of the Norwegian oil and gas deposits can be left unused as a result of other environmental policy instruments. For example, taxes on CO2 emissions, which for several years has meant that some fields have been unprofitable.

– In addition, there are fields in Norway which is not open for exploration for various reasons, and some this could be left in the ground. What will be the final statement when the oil age is ending, I do not know. This is not an appropriate goal for oil and gas policy, says Minister.
