Lysbakken disappointed ‘climate-Støre’ – Aftenposten

– This summer, I perceived that he was clear on precisely this, that parts of the Norwegian oil and gas must be present climate considerations. Now the picture is much less clear, says Lysbakken said.

– He must not be intimidated by the oil lobby and right, but take the IPCC seriously. It is completely inconceivable that Norway extract all of its oil and gas reserves, says SV leader.

Labour’s new leader has been presented as a threat to the Norwegian oil industry. The trade Norwegian oil and gas presented Wednesday a report claiming that the Minister might change Labor policy in a more environmentally friendly direction.

Environmental organizations fingers crossed that analysis is true, while the coalition parties accuse Labor leader for spreading uncertainty about the regulatory framework for Norway’s most important industry.

– If I am the greatest threat to the oil and gas industry, it can sleep well at night, said Minister when he visited the NRK Dagsnytt Eighteen Wednesday.

He is opposed to the descriptions in the report that same day had received wide coverage by the media.

– I have not advocated that the Norwegian oil should remain below ground, he emphasized towards said.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that two-thirds of the world’s fossil energy resources must be left in the ground if we are to avoid dangerous climate change. Støre believes it is important to listen to this message, but denies that the same ratio will apply for Norwegian petroleum production.

– There will be a poor instrument to adopt a fraction of what we should develop the Norwegian Continental Shelf , says Labor leader, who believes that his remarks have been misinterpreted by actors who have a political interest to misunderstand him.

Minister does not deny that some of the Norwegian oil and gas deposits can be left unused as a result of other environmental policy instruments. For example, taxes on CO2 emissions, which for several years has meant that some fields have been unprofitable.

– In addition, there are fields in Norway which is not open for exploration for various reasons, and some this could be left in the ground. What will be the final statement when the oil age is ending, I do not know. This is not an appropriate goal for oil and gas policy, says Minister.

He will not put up in the oil industry profitability analysis, but points out that “there were a lot of rocks again when Stone Age came to an end.”

SV leader Audun Lysbakken are unsure how to interpret the Minister.

– I am disappointed in him if he says that there are certain parts of our oil and gas must be present . When this more resembles the old gray than green new Labour, he said.

SV leader believes Minister must give a clear answer on what he thinks of Statoil and tar sands, investments in fossil fuels and oil production outside Lofoten, Vesterålen and Senja.

– It is not enough to debate. At some point, one must conclude, says Lysbakken.
