A beta version of the new Norton Security is now available on Symantec’s beta website for Norton software.

Ni becomes one
A total of nine security programs will be merged into a single cloud solution, and the service will be available as a subscription.
Although Norton Security will still be available at retailers, Symantec will promote their own website as the main source for the solution, writes American PC World.

The reason is primarily that this sales channel, resulting in “healthier earnings» (“healthier returns”) for Symantec, said Gerry Egan, the company’s head of product development at PC World.
In practice this means that Symantec now follows by companies like Adobe and Microsoft-year subscription to the software instead of classic license sales.

The new cloud solution from Symantec is available to American customers on 23 September, while we in Europe have to wait until early October.

– Confused customers
Over the years, Symantec has steadily expanded its range of security applications as new threats are detected. Finally ended up with a software collection where customers had trouble figuring out what programs they really needed.
– What we eventually realized is that we actually ended up confusing many of our customers, says product development boss Gerry Egan.
For a whole year have Symantec worked with a total restructuring of the security software.

The new cloud solution, which will simply be called Norton Security, Norton replaces Internet Security, Norton AntiVirus, Norton360 and several other applications.
The aim has been to produce an easy to use online service on par with, for example, Netflix or iTunes. The user interface shall be greatly improved and simplified.
“New” Norton Security comes for both Windows and Apple’s OS X operating system, and for both Android and iOS phones and tablet.
How many units each customer can run their Norton Security subscription has not yet been determined. But the figure will be a compromise in which, on the one hand want to prevent abuse of the software and on the other hand offer a solution that fits the vast majority of customers, according to Egan.
Also backup in the cloud
As an addition to security, Symantec will provide the ability to backup to the cloud. The solution is called Norton Security with Backup.

Price is not determined yet, but it will probably start at around $ 10 25 gigabytes of storage, according to American PC World.
Users of Norton existing applications will continue to use these programs, but Symantec will encourage them to move to subscription solution.
