Spilltest: But you should clear the space for it in TV-your bench?
Two years and nine months after the Xbox One was launched, Microsoft released a “slim”edition of the console.
Xbox One’s
This fall release Sony two new PlayStation 4 consoles: a smaller version of the original and a Pro version with support for 4K-gaming. Microsoft has chosen to launch a smaller version of the Xbox One in the fall, while the superpowered Xbox Scorpio does not come until next fall.
It will say that the PlayStation 4 which already was more powerful than the Xbox One, is even more powerful an extra year. One may wonder if this was a smart move by Microsoft. I lean towards a yes.
a Little bit more powerful than the Xbox One
On maskinvarefronten is, of course, the few differences between the Xbox One and the S. It has never been intended that the S consoles to be much more powerful, and with the PS4 Pro and Scorpio, it is actually the first time that spillkonsollprodusentene create more powerful versions of the current generation.
However, there is of course a difference between the Xbox One and the S. the clock speed has increased by 7.1 per cent from 853 to 914 MHz. ESRAM bandwidth is also a little faster and is now at 219 GBps, up from 204 GBps. This means that the console can upscale the image to 4K-resolution at the same time as it has HDR support and can play 4K Blu-ray.

Insane leaking
The first thing that strikes one when you open the box, is where the leaking console is. Xbox One S looks so good that that I are disgusted over the kjipe TV-bench it is placed in, it is almost a little sad. And so it is the size then, 40 per cent less than the Xbox One, in addition to releasing the external power supply.
Microsoft has released the special edition of the Xbox One S with the theme for both Gears of War 4 and Battlefield 1, but my opinion is that they can’t be compared with the white. It is simply in a class of its own.
the Xbox One is already known to be very quiet and the S-model is, so to speak, complete silence. It is not in the track of the particular heat. Microsoft has apparently learned from the original Xbox 360 was a solid bråkebøtte and struggled with overheating.
A handsome design change with P is that the one USB connector is moved from the side of the console to the front. It makes it much easier to get access to the for example when you should charge controller or connected to the accessories. It sits two USB connectors on the rear along with optical audio out, HDMI-in and -out as well as ethernet connection.
the Kinect-connection is removed, it is perhaps not so surprising since the Kinect seems to be a less and less the focal point (at least in the spillfronten) for Microsoft, but it is possible to order a transition. An integrated IR transmitter enables you can still use accessories such as a remote controls.
Tiny difference … in some games
As mentioned above, it is not the great maskinvareforskjellene between the two Xbox One consoles. Tests conducted by Digital Foundry shows, however, that the S console provides better performance in some games. Both when it comes to load times and frame rate. Unless you check this thoroughly though, there is rather small probability that you will notice anything in practice.
One thing I have noticed is that Xbox One S starts up much faster than its predecessor. Perhaps it’s something with the fact that the latter has a few years of experience and it is all possible fast in the cache and on the hard drive. It is not easy to say.
the Xbox One S is also the first video game console that has support for HDR, or high dynamic range. Magically also get the original PlayStation 4 this opportunity through an upcoming software update. HDR can give the TV picture, deeper colors and richer contrasts, something that makes the image more alive than for example than a regular HDTV.
Not all games support HDR. Among other things, makes the fresh Forza Horizon 3, the review is on the way, and the upcoming Battlefield 1. The difference is worthy in several games, among other things, in precisely Forza Horizon 3.
This is by the way with the Xbox One games that support HDR:
- Battlefield 1.
- Forza Horizon 3.
- Gears of War 4.
- NBK 2K17.
- Resident Evil 7.
- Scalebound.
Note that there are two different HDR solutions: HDR 10, and Dolby Vision. Xbox One S supports the former, which is supported among other things by the TV’s from Samsung, Sony, LG and Philips.
do you Want to enable HDR on your Xbox One S will find the option under All settings, Display and sound, video Output and Advanced video settings.
Better controls, but not Elite-level
With the Xbox One S comes a new and improved edition of the already great controller. The biggest news is that the controller finally has support for Bluetooth so you can connect it wirelessly to a PC without having to be dependent on the wireless adapter that Microsoft sells separately.
In addition, the controller also connects wirelessly to smartphones including the Samsung Galaxy S7. Microsoft has just released an update so that you can play Minecraft on Galaxy S7 with the Gear VR headset and Xbox One controller. It’s cool.
The other difference between the original and the S controller is that the latter has a bit of texture on the underside, where it rests my fingers. The texture is not as good as on the Elite controller, it is no matter in the class for themselves, but is nevertheless a solid upgrade for standardkontrolleren. However, it is allowed to hope that this is the standard from now on.
Conclusion
the Xbox One S is a great console in many ways and it is difficult to find anything particularly negative by it. Yes, it still can’t play 4K games or 1080p with 60 fps (in many games), but S is mainly intended as a design change, not a significant upgrade.
do you Have Xbox One there’s really no great reason to upgrade to the S console. You get a significantly better design, each of its taste, as well as support for HDR, and 4K Blu-ray. Is this something you cherish, is it just to turn to.
If you are førstegangskjøper of the Xbox One, is there maybe an easier choice. The 500 GB variant is 1000 dollars more expensive a originalkonsollen, but when we get in addition with FIFA 17. You have zero interest in the game, is there anyway just to sell it.
do you Want to keep you in the Xbox One ecosystem and want the best possible performance, it might be best to wait to see what Microsoft can get on with the Xbox Scorpio.
Conclusion: 8/10.
+ The best game console.
+ Silent.
+ 4K Blu-ray.
+ HDR.
+ Better controls.
– Not much better performance.
– a Little high price.
