A half a billion Yahoo accounts hacked – the Newspaper.en

(Dagbladet): Internet giant Yahoo confirms that they have been the victim of a hacker attack and that user data to a half a billion people are on the way.

Yahoo is one of the world’s largest suppliers of internet-services such as e-mail and cloud storage.

the recent data breach happened in 2014, but the company provides no explanation as to why they did not notify their users before now, almost two years after that the personal information ended up on the wrong hands.

the Company says that the hackers have not been:

  • the Users ‘ names,
  • Email addresses
  • phone Number
  • date of Birth
  • Datastrenger that displays the number of characters in password
  • the Encrypted and the unencrypted security question with the answer

Disabled

They stress that the investigation so far suggests that the hackers not got the actual password or credit card information.

the Investigation suggests that it is a state actor that has hacked them, but according to Yahoo haven’t the hackers further access to their systems.

the Company he now disabled the passwords to those of their customers where the passwords can be lost. In addition, they pray all the customers who haven’t changed the password since 2014 to do this now.

the Company invite all their customers to be on alert for suspicious changes in hjemmeområdene and in your inbox.

Government-hacking

the Company shows that the data-attacks from foreign states is an increasing problem for technology companies.

In June, it became known that the company is on track to be sold to tele-company Verizon for the equivalent of 39 billion. Yahoo was one of the early internet giants and was at the end of the 1990s valued at over eight hundred billion.

the Company has encountered strong competition from Google, but in many markets, they have still a strong position.
