BARCELONA, MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS: Let’s just go straight to the point:
Galaxy S6 – both variants – is the finest Samsung has created, unparalleled. Perhaps this is also the finest phones ever made.
Samsung launch under mobile exhibition last year was an ever so small anticlimax. They have spent years to rectify their mistakes ever since.
Sacked designer
Lead Designer was fired, and in the autumn of last year we got some playing maker on which direction Samsung was about to move. Although we expected that the sequel to Galaxy S5 should be built in less plastic, we had honestly not foreseen how good result came to be.
Galaxy S6 Edge, hand on heart, one of the finest pieces electronics undersigned has remained in the hands ever. Galaxy S6 is not bad either, but Edge variant is really gem.
The glass on both are covered with a thin metallic layer that plays in the light. It is as if the phones change color depending on how you hold them.
S6 and S6 particularly Edge, thus provides a very good first impression. Finally, Samsung has managed to design a product the world’s largest mobile manufacturer worthy. Phones feels both solid and good to hold.
It is also worth noting that you do not need very good imagination to see similarities with Apple’s iPhone 6. This applies in particular The usual S6- edition.

Glass remains breakable
So, one can wonder whether it is particularly advisable to cover the back glass. Sony has done this for a while, and our experience is that it should not really take a lot to break the glass on Xperia phones.
Samsung has chosen Gorilla Glass 4, which tolerates almost twice as much as similar thick Gorilla Glass 3, used in Sony’s phones.
But we do not look completely away from that it can storm in social media when people start to break S6 one their. For unbreakable is not glass.

Razor sharp screens
Samsung has as usual gone for Super AMOLED displays, and both phones have 5.1 inch screens with 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution.
The curved area of the screen to the Edge variant included in the targets, unlike the Galaxy Note Edge, where the curved part is not considered in screen size or resolution.
Home Key is a fingerprint reader. Photo: Marius Valle The solution is anyway high enough. Higher than you really need, since it would have been difficult enough for most of us to see any difference between this resolution and full HD on the same acreage.
The screen is glued on the surface of the phone, and the response seems to be impeccable. But this is the impression we have formed us after playing with the phone briefly.
Bright is both screens too, so they should work well in sunlight.

Easier and prettier software
It is no more than a few years ago Samsung Galaxy phones was a blissful mess of flashy icons and all the world’s fancy but useless features.
Last year cleaned the past a lot of junk from Galaxy S4, and this year appears menus even more minimalist.

There is simple choices, many icons are replaced by text, and not least substantially all of the bloatware cut away.
Menus experienced rapid and responsive, and during our short session with the phones we noted nothing special to complain about here .
Since the screen of S6 Edge can be used to clock, weather information and status. Photo: Marius Valle Edge variant has also opportunity to show the clock on one of the sides, and is the screen-side down against the table, it can light up with predefined colors for selected contacts. Calls may be rejected by touching the heart rate monitor.
Absolutely free of bloatware is phones not. Samsung pushes Microsoft Office on you, and exhibit models seem to come with shortcuts to download Instagram and Whatsapp, but it is not so much to complain about.
You also get 115 GB of storage on Microsoft cloud storage service OneDrive.
It may help to make up for that phone does not support memory card. Nevertheless, lack Memory Card be an objection for some.
Some are probably not especially pleased that Samsung has gone away from replaceable battery.
It is still difficult to imagine that this in itself will stand in the way of success. World’s best-selling smartphone, iPhone, after all never had either.

Samsung itself emphasizes that phones come with up to 128GB of memory, and the phone can be charged in half the time it takes to charge an iPhone 6 thanks to fast charging.
We otherwise pleased that Samsung has finally dumped the poor fingerprint reader they have used since Galaxy S5. The new one is of the same type that you find in the iPhone 6, and we experienced it as equal in use. There after trying to set it up, so it remains to be seen how it works in practice.

Better Camera
The camera is also improved here.
The solution is that last year 16 megapixels, but Samsung has introduced a new sensor, optical image stabilizer and uses infrared light from the pulse sensor at the rear to improve white balance in the images. The latter is a world first.
The camera is impressive enough in itself. It has auto focus tracking moving objects, has an aperture of f / 1.9, and should work especially well under dim lighting.
The camera on the Galaxy S6 according Samsung chopped better than the iPhone 6. Photo: Marius Valle A double tap the home key starts According Samsung, camera of 0.7 seconds wherever you are on the phone. The exact figure, we can not vouch for, but it started in any case very quickly when we tested it out.
It is of course impossible to say anything sensible about how good the camera works without having tested it, but we note in any case that it is fast, and that a few pictures we took during non optimal lighting was reasonably good.

Hefty processor
The processor Samsung has put in Galaxy S6 phones should be credited for the experienced blazing and responsive. There is of course no different than we expect of a top model.
Samsung has thrown out Qualcomm Snapdragon system chip in favor of his own produced Exynos 7420.
This has similar architecture Snapdragon 810, with quad-core 2.1 GHz Cortex-A57 and quad-core Cortex-A53. An important difference is that Samsung’s chip is made with 14NM production process.

This refers to the size of each transistor in the processor, or more precisely the distance the current must pass from one end of the transistor to the other when it is on. The shorter the distance, the less energy is needed, and the less heat is developed.
Simply put, Samsung processors use less power and develop less heat to perform the same operation as Snapdragon 810 or Apple A8, which are both made with 20nm production process.
We’re talking here about sizes that can be counted in atoms laid side by side, but it has great impact.

A quick test of fingerprint reader gives us the impression that it works much like the iPhone 6. Photo: Marius Valle
It is also worth seeing that Samsung has taken a step forward with working memory. Commonly used LPDDR3 memory but Galaxy S6 is used LPDDR4 memory. This allows the system chip can move data between memory and processor faster.
So, a always ask how much this has to say in practice. That we will either come back to when we test the phones.

Will this Samsung next big success?
As we see it is all set for a blockbuster for Samsung. Galaxy S6 Edge emerges as exclusive and innovative, and we guess it’s going to do very well in Norway. This could be Samsung’s next big success.
despite Edge costs 1400 pounds more than the corresponding Galaxy S6.
The standard edition is no bad choice it either, although it may appear to be more anonymous.
The phones coming to Norway in early April, and prices start at 6600 Galaxy 6 with 32 GB and 8000 for S6 Edge with the same capacity.
For comparison, the iPhone 6 from 6600 million with 16 GB of memory, and iPhone 6 Plus 7600 million with the same capacity.
