Nen of the good things about Windows 10, is that one can repent unless the upgrade of expectations and problems arise. Until now, users have been able to do this for 30 days after installation.
This applies both to upgrade from older Windows versions, ie 7 and 8.1, and updates to new versions of Windows 10, which it until now have come two.
From 30 to 10
But with the latest update, Windows 10 Anniversary update, some cooling-off period has been greatly reduced.
Under the heading “Go back to your previous version of Windows” on this page is stated that the withdrawal period is reduced to ten days with Windows 10 Version 1607, thus Anniversary Update.
initially one would think that there is less that can go wrong when you only update from the Windows 10 version to another, compared to upgrade from older versions of Windows. This should not have a brief respite mean less, although it would be difficult to see why 30-day deadline could be retained.
But since Anniversary Update was made available on August 2 this year, there are apparently many who have encountered problems.
Some encounters problems already right after the update to the anniversary update, and then return period more than adequate. But some have also experienced problems do not disappear even if the system has been rolled back to the previous version.
Recommend blocking
Already last week recommended Windows expert at InfoWorld that Windows 10 users until further blocking the automatic update to Anniversary Update. But it is not necessarily so easy, especially for users of Windows 10 Home Edition, where users are given considerably less control over Windows Update than in more advanced editions of the operating system.
In an article published yesterday, writes the same journalist that the problems are growing and that the solutions are volatile and unreliable.
Users experience everything from serious problems that your PC locks up during the first reboot after the upgrade, the little niggles which settings that the user has changed, has been replaced with the default settings. Others find that the entire disk partitions have been invisible.
Microsoft’s advice for some is that they reinstall Windows 10 Anniversary Update from scratch.
Antivirus issues
several security products for Windows 10, from at least Avast and McAfee, have caused problems and at worst crash after installing Anniversary Update. McAfee says that these problems were not present with Windows Insider editions of anniversary update. These problems can however be resolved by updated versions of security software installed, preferably before the installation of the Anniversary Update done.
Fortunately, many of the problems solved by the users themselves, but it assumes that one knows how. Many simply have assistance from IT personnel or family and friends.
But there are many users who report that they have not encountered problems at all.
Hopefully manages Microsoft to avoid such problems when Windows 10 to get the next major update. This will however only happen in 2017.
Acceptable for most: Introduce stricter driver requirements in Windows 10
