CEO Sigve Brekke, Telenor launched two concrete initiatives at an event during Arendalsuka Wednesday morning. The idea is to build up Norway as a digital entrepreneurial nation.
Telenor cooperates with NTNU, SINTEF and StartupLab about the so-called Artificial Intelligence / AI and Big Data projects.
At the same time also launched a dedicated network for experimentation with next generation “internet of things” – internet of Things / IoT in several Norwegian cities.
– we must build critical Norwegian expertise in artificial intelligence, and we must give Norwegian entrepreneurs access resources they need. Only in this way can we ensure that we succeed with digital restructuring and the creation of new jobs. Fledgling businesses play a central role in the creation of new jobs, so this should be an exciting opportunity for anyone planning new modern high tech companies, says CEO Sigve Brekke.
– Digitization, big data, Internet of things and artificial intelligence are strategic areas in which SINTEF has substantial knowledge. Norwegian experts play a key role in the introduction of new digital technology. The partnership with Telenor gives us new opportunities to obtain the value of big data that contribute to increased competitiveness of Norwegian industry, says Alexandra Bech Gjørv, CEO of SINTEF in an article on SINTEF’s website.
There shows that the new “AI lab” at NTNU will drive innovation and research in artificial intelligence and big data. The laboratory will research on how machines can develop new services by finding structures and hidden knowledge in large data sets.
– Now we get the opportunity to reinforce research and innovation in artificial intelligence and big data. Better equipment and more research will enable us to solve the projects and tasks that will provide Norwegian actors important competitive advantages in the international race to a digitized world. This collaboration will clearly accelerate and strengthen the realignment of Norway to a digital future, while it raises the level of education in areas where we need to be internationally excellent, says NTNU Rector Gunnar Bovim.
The agreements in initially a term of five years with an overall konstandsramme 50 million.
