Test Intel Core i7-7700K – Tek.en

We write 2017, we write 3. January and we write Kaby Lake – Intel has namely finally released their latest flagship in the entusiastklassen. As usual, there are top models that comes first, and they are then in the form of a overklokkbar Core i5 and Core i7.

Intel’s Kaby Lake processors have been on the market a few months already, but only in laptops and slower desktop. We saw, for example, on the ASRock Beebox-S with such a processor just before christmas.

But now it is the more full editions that are to find on store shelves. As it is to talk about the seventh generation Core processor also begins modellbetegnelsen with a 7-figures, and the two sjefsmodellene in the Core i5 and i7 class is called when the i5-7600K and i7-7700K.

We can start with to direct your attention to the new grafikkdelen, which makes Kaby Lake is far better at decoding and encoding of HEVC material. We must also mention maskinvarestøtten for “YouTube codec” VP9, as processors Skylake and previous generations can’t cope with in any other way than with raw computational power.

By the side of the grafikkdelen, is the main difference between the Kaby Lake, and Skylake, that the former can reach higher one-bit without generating much more heat.

The two generations have otherwise much in common. They are made with 14 nanometers manufacturing process, uses the same processor socket, and can run on the same chipset. Intel believes, moreover, that it is a “renovated” process, as they call it 14nm+ – but 14-nanometer, it is no matter.

Since the processors have so much in common you need in most cases nothing more than a small BIOS update to be able to use a Kaby Lake processor on your old Skylake motherboards.

When it is said we also with that Intel release a new chipset that da is aimed at Kaby Lake. Motherboards with these chipsets will also take Skylake processors.

today we are going to concentrate on the Core i7-7700K, which is the new Kaby Lake-top model. The less expensive i5-issue, as compared to the i7 has a lower clock speed and lack of Hyper-threading, we come back to later this week.

Under ten per cent faster

For those of you that have followed with the at Intel a few years, it will probably not come as any great surprise that there are drastic differences in performance seen from the equivalent model from the previous generation.

If we do not calculate the potential of overclocking is ticking Core i7-7700K away on 4,5 GHz with turbo mode, up to 300 MHz compared to the Core i7-6700K. It is just over seven percent faster clock speed, and it is also around this figure the actual difference is in performance – when we talk about prosessortunge operations.

For gaming with a dedicated graphics card we noticed no practical difference. The same applied when we looked at the processor’s own grafikkdel, but we expect to see anyway with that the most with a processor of this kaliberet want a little more grafikkmuskler.

For details, you can even see the results from the testing over the next few pages. The new Core i7-7700K was, incidentally, not only measured against the corresponding processor from the Skylake-generation, but also’s haswell and’s haswell “Devil’s Canyon”. Verstingprosessorene from’s haswell-E and Broadwell-E was also in on the fun.

Conclusion

Intel Core i7-7700K and Kaby Lake-the platform is not a big step up from the Skylake for desktops. Who also wrote in the current test of the ASRock Beebox-S will enough the processor rather please filmfrelste and people with computers that runs on battery.

The extended support for encoding and decoding of the heavier clips may Kaby Lake generation’s major contributions, since it means lower prosessorbelastning and ditto power consumption and heat generation. But for a powerful desktop spillrigg means, of course, not this big.

It doesn’t mean that Kaby Lake does not have any place in entusiasten, but then it should perhaps be an upgrade from’s haswell or preferably even further back. The smartest thing right now will be to pour the ice water in the undiken, as we also soon come with the test of the little brother Core i5-7600K.

Both this and the ryktede Core i3-7350K may prove to be more sensible and more processors than today’s testobjekt.

not to mention that you first have to get with you what AMD pulls out of the hat during Ryzen name. For if early reports are correct, this may be an even better godsak.

You may not need to wait as long as either:
17. January can be Zen date >>>
